Having just found out I passed Course 8, I'm ready to start on my PD!!!
I have a couple of questions as I begin this. First, I noticed that the "Seminars/Conferences/Symposia Approved as Eligible for Professional Development Credit" link at soa.org only has 2006 courses approved. Will there be an approved-courses list for 2007?
Second, does anybody have any advice for putting together a PD plan? The model plans don't fit my situation very well.
The 2007 list of seminars is still not up yet. Hopefully they will post it soon. I think it was up by this time last year.
If the model plans don't fit your situation, I would just write something that does--following the framework that the sample model plans have.

I asked the SOA about this, and they said they were planning on putting up a new list this week.
I suppose that the point of PD was to help people like me study something that was actually relevant to what I'm doing. But it's a little scary to take full advantage of the flexibility they offer.

The responce I got from the SOA is the list will be posted this week, hopefully by Wednesday. The fact that is not posted didn't prevent me from finalizing my seminar schedule. Here is what I got:
JHA Dynamics of Disability Seminar- March 7-9, Florida- 6.75 credits.
S.M. Snow's Experince Rating Boot Camp- March 26-27, Las Vegas- 7.25 credits.
S.M. Snow's Advanced Underwriting and Pricing Techniques- April 19-20, Florida- 9 credits. So, if any of you health (disability) product development plan, you can come and join me. It will be fun!

As exhilarating as that schedule sounds, I should probably stick to the life track. At least the SOA's 2007 calendar of events is posted. I wish there were more events before summertime. I'm ready to get this thing over with.

Is your company going to pay for all these seminars?

But of course! I didn't pass 5, 6, 7 and 8 practically in one year for nothing!

That's great. I hope that my company's going to cover all the PD-related expenses.
How do you how many PD credits there are for each seminar as SOA hasn't updated their website yet?
Btw, are you using the health model plan? How do you allocate the PD credits to each educational objective?

Basically, I went by last year's availability. But then, contacted the responsible people for the seminars I was interested in. There were a few that were not offered at the same time of the year (one of Milliman's come to mind). I talked to Mr. Snow and I knew his seminars were being re-evaluated. I got a confirmation from him what the new credits are (same as before). JHA's was never in doubt. Just being a little more resourceful, that's all

Yep! I probably need to say that I've never used the offered seminars for exam preparation, so overall my company is saving money on me. But it is very nice that they let me do all 3 seminars.
