Does anyone know if there is a website set up for either of the seminar choices yet? A quick Google didn't turn up anything productive.

Or, does anyone still have the info with the email address of the Philadelphia guy? I have misplaced mine.

Thanks!

the Actex seminar (Reynolds) is at actuarialseminars.ca

The Philadelphia guy, Michael Hee is at mikehee@yahoo.com

What's your top choice?

Thank you very much.

Top choice? I don't know yet. I need to investigate a little bit. St Louis is closer. Transportation and meals/lodging would be my expense with the seminar fee covered by company. So, I'll drive to either place (from Indianapolis). However, I've heard bad things about the St Louis seminar but I haven't heard anything about the Hee seminar.

Are you planning on attending one of them?

Yes,
I think I'll attend one. Not sure which. Reynolds said that he would go through the Actex during the seminar, and that he wouldnt be handing out a seminar textbook, and I don't want to buy the actex, so I'd have to sit there and take notes for 5 days. not sure I want to do that.

Mike Hee said he would hand out a seminar text book so I would rather do that I think. But I have no idea who he is, or if he's ever conducted a seminar before..

Has anyone heard back from Michael Hee?

Or does anyone have details on his seminar?

I looked him up and he just recently got his FSA. He took 8M two years ago. I can't find a website for the seminar.

I sent an email and after about two weeks heard back from him, although he didn't answer my questions. It was a general email sent to about 10 people. He said he would be sending another the following week with more details, but that was over two weeks ago. He hasn't responded to any of my follow-up emails, even just to acknowledge he got them and say he doesn't have a date yet would have been appropriate.

Here is the email he sent on 1/19:

Thank you for your interest in the upcoming seminar. I am still in the process of finalizing the hotel arrangements. Here are the details at this point...

The seminar will be held in Philadelphia, PA some time around the end of March or first few weeks in April. Cost will be $825. Seminar will last 5 days
(Wednesday through Sunday).

Emphasis will be on problem solving. Seminar attendess will receive a study guide containing problems, solutions, a condensed outline of the material and suggested areas to emphasize during your last few weeks of preparation.

I will forward along to all of you the final details regarding dates and location by the end of next week.

In the mean time, feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you may have.

Thanks again for your interest in the seminar.

Best Regards,

Michael Hee

This is not too reassuring.

I want to go to a seminar, but not the Actex one because I've heard bad stuff about it, and Reynolds will be following the Actex, which I am not using, and will not hand out a seminar book.

Then again, I don't really want to go to a seminar by someone who has zero experience. (and who doesn't reply to emails). I've emailed Hee 3 times since his email 2 weeks ago and still have not received anything back

I agree. I have written to Hee twice (January 19 and again on January 27) and never got any response, not even the update that the Shop girl has posted. I have definitely ruled out Reynolds seminar and at this point I am almost leaning towards not going to any seminar although I badly want/need to go to one since this is my first time sitting for a written exam. I have also talked to a friend of mine to get together for a few days and do our own bootcamp review / problem solving sessions (although we live in different cities). BTW, is there anybody studying for this exam in NYC who might be interested in a study partner?

If everybody is trying his Yahoo account, he may not be responding. Has anybody send an e-mail to his work e-mail (obtained via the SOA website)? Since he's a VP for a consulting firm, I'm not sure how swamped he is right now. Just a thought.

I didn't try his work account. However, the point is that if you are going to run a "business" and you list a certain email as your "business" email, shouldn't you be checking it, at least once a day? And as a potential "customer", why shouldn't I expect to get a response when I send an email to the "business" email address. Why should I have to go out of my way to contact him.

I think I very much leaning away from this seminar. He just got his FSA and has not set a very good precedent in responding to inquiries.

Actually, north Jersey, but I'm really close to the City about half of my nights. I'd love to do some review days on Saturdays--pick a topic a weekend and plow through it. Every other weekend, actually--I have my kids on alternate weekends. Maybe starting in March? Send me a PM if you're interested.

I too, received this email from Mr. Hee.

I also asked him to provide me with more info about the times of the seminar since I have to pay my own airfare and I would like to buy tickets in advance. But he has not responded. I don't know if his seminar would be helpful or not but it is irritating that he hardly responds to questions about it. Doesn't he even care?

I bet you we get an email in about a month from Mr Hee saying that there will be no seminar

That's exactly what I was thinking. I bet he is still trying to get through everything and see if he has enough time to put one together. Therefore he is not releasing a firm date. Although, I think it would serve him best just to say that and let us know the date will be later, if that is the case. Or, if he is not going to be able to hold one, let us know so that we can re-adjust our study schedules.

Although like I said, I think I am starting to lean very much away from this seminar.

OK, this is beyond ridiculous now, perhaps approaching redonkulous. What is with this guy, Hee? Out of principle, there is no way I can attend this guy's seminar now, if he even offers one.

I'm assuming no one else has heard back from him either. I never even got the teaser email acknowledging his existence and promising an update soon. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that perhaps a family emergency or something like that came up. If so, I'm sorry. If not, this is not a good way to start a business.

From Michael Hee:

Hello Everyone-

Thanks again for your interest in the review seminar.
Unfortunately, due to numerous work obligations, I am unable to offer the GH CSP seminar this spring. I wish you all well in your preparation and performance on May 11th.

I was very much looking forward to teaching the seminar, but am unable to devote the necessary time to produce a quality seminar that you all deserve.

Again, best of luck to you all.

Kindest Regards,

-Michael Hee

As suspected, although earlier than anticipated.
