I have heard it mentioned (can't locate any of those posts at the moment) that the SOA wants a candidate to take either MFE or MLC, depending on their track? Is that true? Everything I've seen on the SOA site indicates they expect a candidate to take both parts of the exam.

I believe that I read at one point that MFE would be required for the new Enterprise Risk Management ASA level designation while the MLC would not. But, the last thing I read about the ERM designation (which may not be the most up to date info) is that they are considering joining up with/creating some sort of worldwide ERM designation so in the end those plans may be out the window. If you are doing a traditional ASA/FSA on the SOA side you definitely need both.

There is a new SOA designation Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) (http://www.actuarialoutpost.com/actuarial_discussion_forum/showthread.php?p=2016250#post2016250). Requirements have not be released, but may include MFE but not MLC.
Traditional ASA and FSA require both.
