Grasp problem 29b

I can't remember reading about the COB methods (eg. carve out, exclusion,...) in the reading for this exam, but there is a question in the Grasp problem set relating to that (Q29b). I do remember reading this for 8G but I can't remember where.

Can anyone help me? is this on the exam?

Someone else asked me this same question the other day and I looked back and the carveout method is not on CSP (however it will show up on DP in the Retiree Group Benefits book). I think if I were to define the carveout method as part of the question (i.e. the secondary plan pays the normal plan benefits less what the primary payer paid) the rest of the question is still valid. In addition, in my experience the carveout method is the most commonly used method of COB today. I also don't know that it would be totally unreasonable for you to be asked to solve this question as is and be expected to state your assumption as to the how COB is calculated, in which case my solution would need to be modified to include my assumption as to how COB is calculated. Again, to answer your question I couldn't find the carveout method described anywhere on the CSP syllabus.
