The exams were prepared in NY? Does the SoA know? Is this part of NY state law? :rimshot:

There is actuarial program. There are no actuaries that work there and no one recruits there. It was a "decent program" but the professors don't know anything about Actuaries.

So I am sitting at my desk and the secretary just on the other side of my wall is talking on the phone. She mentions a guy's name which happened to be the same as someone I roomed with senior year.

Turns out it was the same person. Haven't seen him in 25 years.

I graduated a few years ago. I had passed 1 exam while I was there. How many exams do they prepare you for?

I am going to be a senior this upcoming semester, I think the program in our school is extremely outdated. I just started noticing this working at a property/casualty firm in the city this summer (AON). Karin Reinhold was an amazing help to pass the P exam on the first try this may. Goldstein is also very helpful one-on-one. I can't tell you how many times I've knocked on these professors doors asking for help, and I would always come out with the solution, and the idea behind the solution. There is no formal preparation for any of the exams besides a one credit class which I've yet to take. The majority of the classes you will take under this major are not geared towards the actuary exams. And if they are they are only brief and again outdated especially with the theory of interest class. We also have a computer science requirement which would be fine if they would've stuck an excel based class in there, but COBOL is not used so frequently any more. Lastly the economics requirement takes some patience, but again we should have some financial economics classes that specifically cover the material for FM and MFE. Self-studying, in comparison to going through a formal class works a lot better for me. The financial economics class offered with dieffenbach lacks depth, and is more of a survey class touching different topics along the way.

I have to agree that no one is recruiting for actuary in Albany. Most of my friends from actuarial program didn't have a job line up before they graduate.

Most of students can't even pass the 2 exam before they graduate with the undergraduate degree.

finished SUNY Albany in 3 yrs. Passed P and FM and will pass MLC in November. Interned at AXA Equitable this summer. Cannot find a full time job.
