Where is everybody? Still out drinking?
What did you guys think?
I was glad to see not too many calculation questions. Reserves and surplus kept coming up a lot...I found the afternoon more challenging.

I've switched to drinking at home, so I'll give my opinion:

I didn't expect a whole lot of calculation, it seemed like most of the calculation problems that were on the old Course 8 exams belonged on DP, so I was glad to see that confirmed.

I thought both morning and afternoon were of similar difficulty, but I think I was a bit more prepared for the types of questions that were asked in the afternoon.

I really am at a loss for what to expect in terms of grading, so I'm just going to wait and see. I think I did respectable, but have no idea how that translates into the pass/fail world.

I thought the exam was reasonable, but I definitely failed. It sucks. I studied for 150-200 hours. I think if I had studied an extra 30, I would easily have passed. I missed huge questions. Like the reinsurance one. I feel pretty crappy right now. I have a family and they really suffered with me gone for all that time studying and it wasn't even worth it. I thought I would just be relieved when it was over, but instead I just feel bad. I thought the exam was overall pretty fair though, though too heavily weighted on the reserves (which I also did badly on.) At least I'll bring the curve down.

I felt reasonably well prepared in terms of knowing the material, but less so in terms of recognizing the relative importance of topics. For example, I was surprised to see two questions that were essentially about differences between the US and Canada (the one on differences in taxation of benefits and the one on Canadian health regulations). I think I did OK on them, but I could have done better than OK if I had spent more time worrying about that and less time worrying about, say, rating restrictions for small group health coverage (I thought for sure that would show up...)

Overall, I felt better about the afternoon than the morning, but that's probably because of the topics that were covered more than the difficulty of the questions. In any case, it's definitely going to be two months before I have any idea how I did.

So in other words, I agree pretty much entirely with cincinnatikid.

For having completely bombed several calculation questions (amortization, appraisal, at least the 1st part of the reinsurance one) I am fairly optimistic about my chances to pass. Most of the lists I knew exactly what to put (or at least I think I did) and all of rest I had at least some idea. Also, the rest of the computation questions felt good. So long as I didn't make any silly mistakes on those and the SOA finds my writing to be legible, I think I have a pretty decent chance to squeak out a 6 or 7. Then again, a 5 is very possible as well.

Don't really want to rehash, but I did just want to check in. There were definitely some curve balls on the exam. I really don't know what to think of my performance. Kicking myself for not going back over some things that I remember thinking, "This would make a good question." And for some mistakes I know that I made. Trying to not think about it too much until results come out.

I thought the exam was "okay" but 2 questions in the afternoon did give me some trouble. One in particular was the contrast Canadian federal vs provincial health (?) benefits.

I had no idea. Too bad it was a 6 pointer.

I didn't know the federal, provincial was a 7 item list but couldn't remember anything on federal besides mandated coverages.
