View Full Version : Thoughts on MLC and MFE on same day!

I was just curious, how anyone else is holding up to studying for both M exams (MLC and MFE). I really wish they were offered on diffferent days so that I could have a fresh mind for each exam. I mean, if the SOA split the exam, what's the harm in offering them on different days? What's their logic for offering them on same day?

I've seen M material a lot, and I really feel in good shape for this MLC exam. Knowing this I studied a lot of MFE and feel pretty decent with the material. However, recently, I've tried sitting practice exams, and doing 2 in one day is really tough. When I finish MLC, I'm just fried. Even after a break (gym and food), when I get to MFE, I think, god damn, I am so sick of black scholes and puts and calls and I don't want to do this! Since MFE is so technical (more so than MLC I think) its really hard to when my brain is mush

Thoughts?

Well, that kind of depends on how many people are actually sitting for both exams. In the past when exams were split, people would only sit for one part of an exam because it increased their chances of passing just that one part.

Hence, I'm only sitting for exam MFE. This being said, those who are studying for both, will have a tough time passing either b/c I may have put in as much time studying for MFE as some have put in for studying for both MFE and MLC.

I've always found it is easier to only study one topic as opposed to studying two very unrelated topics.

I'm also writing both parts on Thursday. Two of my friends are also doing the same.

I agree with you about being exhausted after doing 3 hours of life con...

I can't remember, do they have a question on the front page that asks how many exams you are writing in the current sitting?

First, I wish everybody that are taking both exams the best luck and I hope that you pass them both.
I think that having both exams on the same day is simply not fair. The SOA was very ruthless to schedule them this way. It is extremely easy to make "stupid" mistakes while doing the MFE problems and without a fresh mind the problems can be extremely frustrating if you make small errors.
It was a conservative move taking only MFE but I believe it was the right choice. I was able to devote a ton of time and now I feel confident that I am able to write a passing exam. I can't imagine doing this exam after doing another an hour before.

Good luck to everbody.
