It's not spell-check that's bad, its the stupid grammer check. Spell-check is good, because it keeps you from make common mispelling errors. You can turn off the grammer checking ability, and just use spell-check, at least in Microsoft Word. If they had studied just spell-check alone, I guarentee you the high SAT scorers would still trounce the low scorers. Just think how much better this paragraph would have been with some sort of spell-check.

I agree. The spell checker does a good job of finding typos, and that is all I have ever used it for. The grammar checker, however, is downright terrible and is useless.

Another vote against the grammar checker. It just doesn't seem to understand normal English. :roll:

I'll agree that I'm not generally fond of the grammar check, but find it works passably well in either formal or technical mode.
