My dream job has always been to own a miniature golf course. I'm about a year from graduation now, and I've begun doing some research on what it would take to accomplish this. From what it seems, the only thing stopping me is about $300,000.

How could I get that much money to start a business? Is it possible? I know a great city in the Midwest that's in dire need of a course (high population, lots of families), and I don't see having any problem paying back the loan. Still, I assume banks would be more than hesitant to loan $300K to some punk college kid. Does anyone have any advice? I would greatly greatly appreciate anything you could tell me.

By the way, the only reason this actuary-related is that being an actuary is my second choice for a job.

Thank you Claude. If I take the actuary path and ever need recruiting help, I'll be sure to contact your firm first.

I wouldn't rule out the bank route necessarily. You'll need a complete, professional looking business plan to present. There's someone up here who wrote a business plan to open a sports bar as a senior project and got a bank to bite. It is now a very successful bar.

That's what I've been working on for the last few days... and thank you for the encouragement! That's the first I've heard of anyone getting something like this approved. It's good to know that it can be done.
