Football Simulation game

So this was inspired by my reading of the OOTP Baseball thread and looking at their website.

Is there any (american) football management simulation game that is worth a damn? Madden is a decent game for controling the players but IMO it sucks as a simulation game. The stats are often messed up and you get unrealistic things happening (the last time I did much simulation on madden I had 4 players rush for more than 2500 yards.. LT actually rushed for over 3000) and EA NFL Head Coach made me want to vomit all over myself. I think I remember seriously considering jamming a pencil in my eye. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you guys had favorites for football simulation or if it was a lost cause.

Action PC Football - No graphics, there are lots of leagues, and head to head play online. Look at the forums and there should be some threads about the game itself.

APBAA used to make a football game. Pretty good really. I don't know if they still make one or if APBAA still exists even. The last version I saw still had Bradshaw quarterbacking the Steelers and Plunkett heading up the Raiders.

i can endorse strat o matic products. Played the basketball game back in HS some. Game play was pretty simple and results made sense.

Strat has its enthusiastic supporters but many object to the copy protection and they have a reputation for indifferent customer support.

I had APBA football growing up and a couple of friends had different seasons for baseball. These were great.
