I had to take my kitty to the vet yesterday. While she acted like it was tramuatizing, she survived. But the really happy thought: she went from 12.5 pounds in October to 10.4 pounds yesterday! :D (She needs to be between 8-9 pounds according to the vets.) Starving my cat really IS working. :p

It was so cool this morning - I walked out to my car this morning on the way to work and I saw SEVEN deer standing out in the field next to my apartment. All of a sudden, all seven of them were looking at me - that's so cool and weird! :D

Finding my old best friend from high school.

Discovering that you're capable of far more than you thought.

Having my cat curled up beside me while I'm studying.

Listening to Dire Straits and dancing around like an idiot.

Also, what's this about Pillow having a bf? Is this recent news, or am I just ignorant?

Kind of recent - I haven't said much about him until recently. I figured I jinxed everything else prior to dating him, so I would go with the keeping things mum route this time around. It's been a 2-3 months depending on when you want to start counting. :D

When your son learns to ride his bike.

My son Ryan isn't the most courageous boy in the world and last summer didn't seem ready for two wheels at age 6. But it only took 5-10 minutes of practice this year on a nearby trail to get him going. He still needs to steer straighter and learn to push off himself, but that shouldn't take long! It's one of the most rewarding feelings I've had as a parent, it was almost effortless.

I did have to save him from running into a tree at one point though. :)

He went on, "I sat on the saddle. The saddle has a horn, it goes toot, toot, get out of my way people!"

I think what I learned is, don't hold out for a good, honest, funny, loving, responsible man who also shaves regularly, dresses well, has a six-pack, and picks up after himself.

I tried to set my guy up with a couple GFs while I was still married to my ex...they were all like "EW! He needs a haircut and has holes in his jeans!! He needs to lose 30 pounds!!"

Then, once I was single and dated around for a while, I ran into him, and that was it...see, the difference was, I had known him for a while and knew what was behind that scruffy exterior! These other girls couldn't see it...their loss, my HUGE gain!

They've all dated and been hurt by some very fit, well dressed jerks with fancy cars.

I've never been the well-dressed, professional type. I like a hard working scruffy kinda guy. If the guy's too pretty, he's gonna have very high expectations of me, and I'm just not into the high maintenance crap.

I'm engaged. Sort of.

If "engaged" means you're going to start planning your wedding for sometime within the next 8 months once you get things squared away with the purchase of the home and grounds on which you'll be having said wedding.

It still counts if the main reason for the agreement that the wedding will occur this year and not next is to take advantage of VA loan terms when refinancing, right? :D

Happy Thought for 3/2/06:

You are very upset on 3/1 to find out there is a competing, supposedly better, offer on your dream-house-deal-of-the-century...you tear up a little, post about on the internet and have your friends help you realign your priorities and perceptions, go home and spend time with your boyfriend-fiance-type-person researching the purchase of a wooded 4+ acre parcel and construction of a custom log home, or perhaps a Zinwood home, have a nice dinner and split that nice bottle of wine you've been saving to celebrate the dream house with the idea that you're celebrating the fact that even though life doesn't always work out the way you want, you're still very blessed...

...and then your realtor calls and wakes you up at 11:30 to let you know that the Dream House you mourned and got over is yours. :D

I guess Zinwood is a company that provides materials and plans for these spectacular homes...you hire the builder and trades, buy the land, and they deliver the structural supplies cut to plan. It's like a log home, but not made of logs. Just one of the websites we were looking at last night before we got the good news.

Playing Tri-bond!

If you haven't heard of the game, the idea is three things are listed, and you need to figure out the common link between the three things listed. The classic example is: Florida, a jailer, and a piano. The link? They all have keys!

Try a few of these out and see how you do! (Answers in white following each list of three.)

- Wise Men
- Blind Mice
- Musketeers

Answer: They're all famous "Three"s

--------------------------

- Great White
- America
- Oliver

Answer: They're all Norths

--------------------------

- Chicago White Sox
- Utah Jazz
- Colorado Avalanche

Answer: They're all sports teams whose nickname does not end in "s"

--------------------------

And finally, the real reason this is posted in this thread:

- The clutch of an automobile
- A heated political discussion
- UA? (as of Fri, 4/21)

Answer: They're all engaged!!!

Yesterday (6/24) we (UA and UA's Finacee) had both families over for a little get-together at 3:00 pm, so the families could finally meet and get to know one another. (After all, they've all heard the names of the "other" family thrown out there, but really didn't know who anyone was.) Once we got the introductions done, we some news to share: We had set a wedding date!

We wanted everyone to learn the date at the same time (there were some mini-fiascoes with the engagement announcement with her family  ), so we printed "invitations" on regular 8x11 paper, folded and sealed them. We asked that everyone wait so they could all be opened at the same time. Here's what the invitation said (well, centered and such - I can't figure it out here):

We

on Saturday, June 24, 2006
at four thirty in the afternoon

(I'll pause now while you check your calendars....)

That's right! We are officially married!

And yes, everyone there was very happy for us (well, once the initial shock wore off!), and a good time was had by all. And now we're headed out for a short honeymoon.

... and I gotta admit, it feels great!!

[And yes, I figured that if the 48 State Tour hasn't outed me, this will.]

I had to go back to bridal shop again tonight to help pick out some shoes. I ended up talking with the manager of the store. All in all, here's what was decided.
1. I would get my money back for the dress and the alterations.
2. They were going to look high and low for a brand new dress, order it, and complete alterations free of charge.
3. I would be getting an apology from the lady who insinuated that it was my time of the month.
4. I would get 20% off any additional accessories or shoes I needed.
5. If they found a new dress of the same size and style, I would be present for the opening of the dress. I would also help in destroying of the old dress. (GIVE ME A PAIR OF SHEARS!!!!)

About an hour later after we left, I got a phone call from the manager. She had found a brand new dress in the DC area. It will be here, at the latest, 1-2 weeks before the wedding. She assured me that the alterations staff would get my dress done before the wedding. She also assured me that the two original people who worked on my dress (the one who insulted me and the one who fit me in my first fitting) would NOT be working on my dress.

So...for a really crappy situation I've had to go through in being a bride, this woman is really going above and beyond the call of duty to make things right with me.

My fiance went along with me this time as well and thank goodness for that! I discovered a new side of him I've never seen and I fell in love with him all over again! What an incredible man! He kept me calm, made reasonable requests, and demanded to have everything in writing before we walked out of the store. I don't know where I'd be without him.

My 8-yr old lost two teeth this week! The second one was this evening, and we always wrap up the tooth and put it in a special container next to his pillow and the tooth fairy comes.

Well the tooth fairy (me) just went upstairs to check on the boy and he was just getting his pillow and blankets set up on the couch. I asked him why, and he said because of the noisy wind outside - he likes to find any excuse to retreat to the couch. It's dark and I grab my wallet without him seeing and get a dollar bill. I ask if the tooth fairy had come yet and we couldn't find the container.

Well we did a few minutes later, it was buried inside his pillow. We set it in place and then I went to turn off the light. And I went back and gave him a hug. And I made the switch right then and there! Problem solved.

These kids are costing me a lot of money, maybe I should purchase tooth fairy insurance to protect me from the volatility and timing uncertainly inherent in these liabilities :)

Damn girl! Nice! Is it weird that whenever I get married, I'm now hoping someone injures themself over my dress too?

Happy thought for the day - My oldest daughter lost her first tooth yesterday, so I got to play tooth fairy for the first time last night.
