Quoth Norman Mailer (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,482-662789,00.html)...
Our little white egos needed stroking, more or less. It's extremely well written cr*p.

We went to war just to boost the white male ego.
Methinks the Mailer doth project too much.
Or maybe not.

I'm sure there is more than a grain of truth to this. What else, Bush couldn't sleep at night thinking about the Iraqi people?
Or Saddam had weapons that made him extremely dangerous, but these very weapons could not make anyone else dangerous (hence the war was over once Baghdad was taken and Saddam disappeared, and not when the weapons were found, which may be never)?

This ranks up there with the "Osama did it because he has a small penis" theory.

Wow, you must believe everything you're told. I hope your gym teacher never told you that the law required private physicals in his office before joining the basketball team.

Huh?
So tell me what is the REAL reason we went to war? I'll take your word for it.

Continuing to contain Iraq was not a good option--it hurt the Iraqi's and infuriated the neighbors. Iraq had no intention of keeping its treaty commitments. (I believe we will find WMD or evidence that they were destroyed in the last month.) Further, Iraqi policy was stoking the fighting between Israel and the Palestinians.
Look at the moves that became possible to reduce tension in the Middle East since the war. We are pulling most of our military out of Saudi Arabia. The Palestinians have chosen a government that seems serious about seeking a negotiated peace with Israel, and all the big powers have united on a roadmap for getting there. With those two factors gone, the US may stop being the Great Satan in the Middle East.

Truly a man from a different time. His ideas show that he was defined during the Civil Rights movement and the anti-war movement during Vietnam. He seems to be getting a little senile...

Makes about as much sense as some of the other theories I've seen floating around here. NONE!!

You can wave your signs in protest
Against America takin' a stand.
The stands America's taken
Are the reason that you can.
If everyone would go for peace,
There'd be no need for war,
But we can't ignore the Devil,
He'll keep coming back for more.
Some see this in black and white,
Others only gray.
We're not beggin' for a fight,
No matter what they say.
We have a resolution
That should put them all to shame.
It's a different kind of deadline
When I'm callin' the game.
Iraq, I rack 'em up and I roll.
I'm back, and I'm a high-tech GI Joe.
I pray for peace, prepare for war,
And I never will forget.
There's no price too high for freedom,
So be careful where you tread.
Now, this terror isn't man-to-man,
They can be no more than cowards.
If they won't show us their weapons,
We might have to show them ours.
Now, it might be a smart bomb
They find stupid people too.
If you stand with the likes of Saddam
One just might find you.
Iraq, I rack 'em up and I roll
I'm back, and I'm a high-tech GI Joe.
I got infrared, I got GPS
I got that good ol' fashioned lead.
There's no price too high for freedom,
So be careful where you tread.
Now, you can come along,
Or you can stay behind,
Or you can get out of the way.
But our troops take out the garbage
For the good ol' USA.
Iraq, I rack 'em up and I roll
(in the USA)
Iraq, I rack 'em up and I roll
(talkin' bout the USA)
Iraq, I rack 'em up and I roll
