How many pages for the written PD project?
For instance is a 30 page paper (including appendices) average length, or too long.
How many pages for the written PD project are in an appropriate range?

I am at a loss to understand this obsession with number of pages and paragraphs. how does this have anything to do with Professional Development?

Number of pages is good high level gauge of the appropriate level of depth, and as such is a very legitimate question. Not that I know the answer - have you checked the length of the samples at the SOA site (or did they gloss over the project portion)? I would guess there is a lot of variation in number of pages, even in the samples.
Transition credits exempted me from the project portion, so I have not spent any time thinking about the depth expected in the project write up. Did your advisor have any input into a depth they felt was most appropriate? Ultimately, I think your advisor is you target audience for the write up.

Mine was about 35 pages, but I'm long-winded. My PD was accepted, but I don't know if it was "picked" to be graded by the SOA. It passed my company's internal PD review process.
I really think they'd be fine with anything in the 15-40 page range, as long as you cover everything you need to.

I've got you beat; my project paper ended up 57 pages (including the title page, the table of contents, the executive summary, the "body", the appendix, and the works cited pages).

Who really won if they were both accepted? :)

I wasn't really trying to win against any of my fellow FSA candidates; I was just trying to make sure my PD plan package was acceptable to the PD Committee. I'm all too familiar with failing. :(

Oral presentation is scheduled for Friday morning, and it'll be out the door Friday afternoon.

45 credits needed. I submitted 51.5, including the 5 conversion credits.
Here is a summary of the items in my PD package which arrived at the SOA on 10/24:
1. Statement of Completion (with advisor’s original signature)– 1 page
2. Executed PD Plan Review Checklist (with advisor’s original signature) – 4 pages
3. Revised PD Plan – 2 pages
4. Educational Benefits Obtained – 4 pages
5. Session Write-Ups – 50 pages
6. Project Write-Up – 20 pages (I did not send the 16-page appendix from my project to the SOA due to the proprietary nature of the data. I included an explanation in the project that the SOA would not be receiving the appendices and also explained that the appendices were reviewed by my company’s internal PD advisory committee.)
Total 81 pages.

my understanding is that 10 credits were prior to conversion, therefore a project was required, the ea credits happended after conversion.
had to have 15 credits at conversion not to do a project.

LOL!
No, I DID have to do the project. That was my only requirement. The EA exams were 25 and conversion was 10, so the way the rules worked the remaining 15 had to be the project.

project=10 pages, other 35 credits=20 pages. Maybe it's not 'meaty' enough - I just submitted, so I'll find that out in several weeks. I thought we were supposed to summarize and relay how we benefitted and would use the information in our job. I couldn't see that taking more than 30 or 40 pages.
