If I answer there is no one there and the phone goes immediately dead.

If I call that number no one answers.

I have gotten approx 5 calls in the last 24 hours what should I do!

At least two other people (http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-949-748-6174) are getting the same calls.

Hate to disappoint you but it's apparently a cell phone in Irvine.

So, I think everyone on the forum should just start calling this number to aggravate whoever it is. :D

it picked up and then sounded like someone else on the other end was dialing out...then nothing.

Have you checked to see what that phone number spells (http://www.actuarialoutpost.com/actuarial_discussion_forum/showthread.php?t=119870)?

It might be masking the real number.

For a while, I was getting daily calls from a number. I googled the number and found that it was a mask that was sent out, but was not the real number. Mostly, it covered various telemarketers, but one person said that his/her parents' number always showed up with this same number mask.

We just got our daughter a cell phone about a month ago. Starting last Friday, she's been getting calls from 877-200-4113. They called about 4 times on Friday and several times on Saturday. I researched the number at http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-200-4113 They are a conglomerate of collection agencies for BMG music. I called the person back and asked them to remove the number from their calling list. He said that he would remove the number. I then said that I would report them to the BBB if they called back. He then got defensive and insisted that they wouldn't call back. Well, they didn't call Sunday or Monday, but then called back yesterday. This is very frustrating.

What's interesting is that it sounds like these calls are going to newer cell phone numbers.

What's interesting is that it sounds like these calls are going to newer cell phone numbers.Several years ago, one of those (BMG, Columbia House, etc.) places would call our house to speak to my younger (about 14-year-old) sister. My mom got on the phone and explained (in a non-specific threatening kind of way) that the girl was a minor and they'd better not be trying to do any kind of business with her without the parents' permission. They never called again.

My sister didn't owe them any money, and had never bought anything, but I doubt that would make much difference in the kind of trouble they could be in for trying to get to a minor without parent/guardian permission.

My little brother signed up for one of those when he was a kid. The whole 5 for a penny thing, and then they rope you in to buying all kinds of crap. They started bugging my mom about paying up for this "contract" he had agreed to. She just said, "Sorry, he's a minor. It's not a binding contract and you should have known better than to do business with a kid. I don't owe you anything." They eventually gave up.
