View Full Version : Deadlifting Black Flag
As promised 10 weeks ago on the WC, here is a pic of me lifting 365lbs which is roughly Black Flag's bodyweight.

Oh, I thought this was going to mention that another incarnation of Black Flag has appeared on the WC. Is it the same Black Flag?
Yes, I workout in a dungeon.

There is only one Black Flag (unfortunately for all of you).

C'mon, my SISTER has lifted that much...
I wonder how many people are going to be accused of being Bolt now because of that grainy picture.
Oh Yeah

Bolt, are you lifting in the attic? Aren't you afraid of falling through the ceiling?
Let me guess: this is the only place your wife will let you store the exercise equipment.
Nah, it's my garage. My wife lifts in here, too. She's got mutant strength.
Power cage. Hmm. I just replaced my old Tuff Stuff cage with their new model. I could not get their high-low pulley and the back floor bar was too close to the uprights making the racking after squatting dangerously uncomfortable when going heavy.
Hey, Bolt how are your safety holes? I’ve tried some with holes farter a part than mine (I think mine is as close as they come at about 1.5 inches) and found them either useless or interfering.
Yup, looks like about 365lbs alright -- looks like two (pairs of) 45’s, one 35’s, one 25’s, one dimes. Good job – it looks like you are pretty much out of weights. Looks like you are using one of those special diamonded bars for dead lifting where you don’t need to worry about knee clearance. How do you like it? What are they called?
Yup, my wife lifts too. We actually have our set in the corner of our living room.
I see no high/low pulley, how do you work back? Bent over rows?
OT: my cage is a model from New York Barbell. It works pretty well. I do wish the holes were a little closer together.
The bar is a called a Trap/Shrug bar. They come in two different shapes (hexagonal, known as the Shrug bar and diamond, known as the Trap bar); mine is the hexagonal model. It works pretty well, but should never be considered the same as a true barbell deadlift. It has been referred to as a squatlift since the movement is very similar to a squat with the weight in your hands. I think it costs about $130 and has been well worth the investment.
For back work I primarily use bent-over barbell rows, chin-ups, and, of course, deadlifts. If you want some nice total back work, try snatch grip deadlifts.

If you wanted to pick up Black Flag, why didn't you just buy him a drink?
What a pervert!
Besides you need flowers, some nice music, maybe a massage...
Back to the original thread, I've got a long way to go before I can lift 300 lbs -- beyond my body weight, of course.
In total, I've pressed, rowed, and pulled only 250 tons cumulative. I look forward to becoming "in shape."

hey bolt, if you wanted to pick up black flag, why didn't you just buy him a drink?
------------
for those at home unfamiliar with this, here's the group dynamics:
flag - blabbers about anything, music and stuff.
bolt - randomly picks a sentence from flag's stuff and insults him (louie anderson reference, armenian folklore, etc.)
me - i just look at this as a very healthy flirt mechanism between the two of them and comment on it. will sometimes include akbar and jeff reference.
whoooooooo

Haven’t tried this yet, but I was thinking some thick foam padding of the safety/cross member may improve the bench pressing experience with the cage (on the bottom of the rep). For me, if I’m pushing it I, at times, come down uneven. Depending on the angle, hitting a hard safety throws my balance off and sometimes ruins the rep and ends the set. I hate this especially when this rep seems the most productive. This foam idea may work well since my lock out (top portion of the bench press) is usually no problem. (Over the years I’ve been widening my bench press grip, hence less emphasis on triceps and more on shoulders and of course chest. As a result, I think, locking out is not the problem it used to be for me.) I’m usually weaker on the bottom and at times could use a light lift perhaps provided by some foam. But then again, this foam may be in the way all the time. Anyway, perhaps something like some removable foam may help you, Bolt, get the effect of closer holes for your safety.

In honor of the residual checks I'm receiving each time Loner posts, here is a bump of his first-ever post. :notworth:

I should receive 12.4 cents if the "View count" goes up by 25 people or more, based on some of my previous incarnations.

As I've said before, I'm me and just me (except for those rare occasions when I use ONE other pseudonym, and it's nobody you'd recognize). I'm definitely not Pi Man, although, if I weren't me, I wouldn't believe me about that. :-?
