I was just thinking...I remember when "Made in Japan" was the punchline to a joke. Cartoons would have something break, and the label would show "Made in Japan". I remember all the junk little toys in gumball machines were made there. We're talking mid 60's.

How did they ever overcome that? Remember the 2-pack (no not 2 Pac) of Hyundais they advertised? What was it? Like 2 for 10,000 or something like that.

It was like we'll give you two so that you have a spare for when the other one is in the shop.

Oh, try going on YouTube and looking up "gaki no tsukai" or "silent library". Guaranteed laughs.

How did they ever overcome that?Deming (among others) went to Detroit to teach them about quality. They told him to get lost so he went to Japan to see if they would listen to him.

I thought he was asking how Hyundai ever overcame their initial reputation as junk (since they seem pretty popular/reliable now). Hyundai's are Korean fwiw.

In Korea, only old people drive Hyundais.
But in Russia, the Hyundais drive YOU!

It'd cost more than 10,000 for me. More like 10billion.

After Japan wasn't it Taiwan? Then Mexico, Korea, and now China, Indonesia, Cambodia, Tailand, and just about any other of the emerging asia-pacific countries?

First they start making things that are labor intensive which require almost no skill to make and can be done cheaply then once they begin getting american cash, they being branching out into more and more complex industries.

China in the 90's early 2000s is where Japan was in the 50s-60s.

That's a hilarious observation. You know what would be a good idea? You should write a movie where someone travels back in time, but then the time machine breaks down because of a malfunctioning time travel control circuit. And then one guy (who may or may not be a real doctor, but it might be funny to have people call him "Doc") from the past says something like, "No wonder this circuit failed, it says 'Made in Japan.'" And then the traveler from the future could say, "What do you mean Doc? All the best stuff is made in Japan." Personally, I think the Doc should reply with something like "Great Scott!", but if you want to go with "Unbelieveable!", I'd be okay with that.

I would pay to see that movie three times.
