Do these things require the expensive mixes (sold spearately), or can they use any "just add water" cake mix?
What about the Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Maker? Do they require the mix that doesn't seem to be available in any store, or can they use the stuff you cook on the stove to put in a regular ice cream freezer?

Don't worry about buying the expensive mixes - just buy a couple of them. After 2-3 uses, your kid will be bored and will never use it again. Problem solved.
Seriously, in this day of microwave ovens, easy bake ovens are almost too much trouble.
You can use regular cake mixes, but only a little bit. When I was a kid, I got about 1/8 cup of my mom's mix when she was baking a cake. I'm sure if you searched online, you could get the exact dimensions.
Good luck!

For the quality of the potential product, I´m sure any cake mix will do fine. Or just some flour, baking powder and water. Be sure to say "yummmm" when you try it.
For my kids, we just cook together. Regular oven, regular recipes. They love kneading dough or rolling out pie crusts, and of course simple cookies are always good.
A nice cook book for kids is "Pretend Soup". They have fun and the food is edible.
