View Full Version : Getting to know you...
Ammie

Since there are a lot of new immigrants from the WC, I thought it might be fun to play a getting to know you game with our gracious hosts from the RF. Hope no-one minds?
My thought was that we could each post a piece of information on another poster, and people would have to guess who it is.
Ground rules:
1. Play nice
2. Only give information that the poster has revealed about themselves on the WC or RF or desert forum. Unless the poster you are putting out there is yourself, then you can give any obscure fact you'd like!
First clue: This poster's favourite words include: flummox.

Sounds fun to me.
Do you want wild guesses, or only ones we consider likely?
I hope the latter, so that we get more tidbits before a random stab connects. Thus I refrain from guessing Andy Lang officially. "Flummox" certainly has some connection to him or his posts, but I don't recall his using it.

The search function does say only Ammie and I have used the word on the RF, so I must be a leading suspect. But all my occurences are in this thread, after Ammie posted the clue, so my alibi should be good enough.
Unless you think I'm devious enough to have edited away earlier occurrences. OK, I am, but no, I didn't.
And I'm sure "flummox" wasn't one of the sweet nothings I whispered in your ear at the Informal. I won't remind you of that complete list; PG-13 guidelines and all that.

I know this thread is designed for fun and for getting to know each other - 2 things which I am in favor of, however, by posting things about others aren't you fostering cliquism? How is a new person supposed to have any clue of what to post? Or know the identity of the subject of another's post?
I don't mean to spoil anyone's fun... (and I'm pretty sure that I won't  ) There is nothing wrong with this thread. I just think that someone ought to come up with a better way to get the WC's and the RF's together.
I'll work on it, but Ammie, you are the champ of fun and informative threads.
I would suggest a mixer where each couple must be from each forum - but perhaps a good number of us are partied out!
Any thoughts? Perhaps a new thread?

Let me try to explain the culture of this rebel forum, why we never had a clique here and don't want to have any. Unlike in the water cooler, here, we try not to be too personal with the posters. We try not to focus on the posters but on discussions of issues, events, and everyday things in life, both fun and serious. We post, we move on! Even Andy, we try to ignore now. We may refer to a poster here and there and then we move on. Some might on occassion flirt, then move on.
Some of us may know others in real life but we hardly mention that here. If we want to tell them something personal, we use the e-mail or PM.
No cliques!!!

Preppy,
You seem almost scared to get to know any of the posters personally. What's the deal?
The WC posters have embraced the chance to meet people online who they can hang out with at exam/professional seminars. I don't really see anything wrong with putting a unique personality with a screen name. It makes things more interesting. Cliques are a natural result of a gathering of people with unique personalities.

Personally, I actually changed my name to better hide my identity. There are a few people who know who I am, but in all honesty I prefer to keep control over that.
I don't consider everyone I come across on this forum benevolent and I wouldn't want this bit of entertainment to come back & bite me on the ass in my professional or personal life.

I've been lurking for a long time and finally decided to come out. This game seems neat, and I thought I understood the rules, but I don't get the numbers.
Please explain.
Also, if it is really going to be a way of getting to know each other without outing anyone or promoting cliques, why not limit information to stuff that's been posted here on the RF?
Troy McClure
12-23-2001, 06:44 PM
Because if you didn't use numbers, you would have 5 clues, and 5 guesses, and not know what went with what. Why not number in order, well, there's problems with multiple posts at the same time, and also some of the numbers might have meaning.
If somebody uses something from elsewhere, then you might learn something new. If you want to use info from the RF, feel free. Just get in the game!

Hey, Ammie! No one's gotten this. Maybe that's not surprising, since it's based on the desert forum (fair game under your rules). With so few posters in common between desert and RF, it shouldn't be that hard.

Assuming you're trying to guess my #349, not Obi. No star trek reference is intended, even if some think I'm spaced out.
The desert is the SOA forum, where posts are allowed only under real name. Poster #349's real name and desert connections have been mentioned in the RF. I think there are only 3 real possibilities. (Other RF's acknowledge having made desert posts, but there's no way for me to relate their RF ids and desert posts).
