Please don't "Not Again!!!!" it.
I really need your support and advice.
I have been searching for a summer internship for 2008. I would be graduating in Fall and really need an internship this summer. I have now applied in more than 30 places, but still have not heard back from most of them including 3 rejections. Please have my resume critiqued. Moreover, though I would be graduating in Fall 08, I have already completed most of my course work in 3 and half years and have only one class remaining for Fall 08 which I am thinking of doing an independent study. Thus, I would be able to work for the companies even after usual summer program. How do I incorporate these things or should I?
Apart from that I would like to mention some of my major disadvantages:
1.F1 Status
2.Not a well-known University
(I can't do anything about these two.)
3. Have not passed any exams.
(Sitting for Feb. Working hard on it.)
I would be open to your suggestions.
Thanks.

Maybe make a section for exams near the top to make it easier for them to see where you are with exams, even though you don't have any. Cull the resume to one page. Remove references to graphic design programs, it shows you don't know what they're looking for. Otherwise I think it looks fine.
I was offered an internship last year around the start of march, and was being considered for another at the same time. So it's not impossible to get one now but I think most people would generally say right now is pretty late to be applying.

A few pieces of advice:
- Don't go past one page on your resume
- Pick only 3 or 4 of your most important (and relevant) jobs to put on your resume. You have so many little things going on, it's just too much to look at.
- Certainly put on a section about exams (about how you plan to sit in February)
- To save space, you don't need as many technical skills. You can list them on a few lines, there's no need to put so many lines.
If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me, I'll help out the best I can.

I really enjoy looking at other people's resumes!
Make it 1 page. Take off the SAT score- a 1260 SAT is not worth bragging about. Make sure that the bullet points are ok grammar wise- the tenses all agree, etc. For example, under statistics tutor, you have developed, assisted, then you have "serve". It's not consistent.
This is not a huge thing- but instead of "work experiences" have just "work experience". You can definitely make the descriptions of some of your experiences briefer.

Yeah, take out your SAT scores. Cut it down to a page. Lower the font size to 10. Separate and bold the exam portion. Don't just group with the eduction part. Take out the bullets for the technical skills section and combine everything. Do the same for the certifications and memberships part. Good luck.

took a very quick glance...
i like the overall set up
needs a lot of minor changes to create more space (ex: delete SAT score, move GPA to the Bach Sci line)
definitely fit it to one page
take out a lot of the space in the header so you have more body
make exams a section before education (athough since you havent passed any yet, maybe make it below education?)

im kind of curious...are there not resume helpers for hire in your (and your meaning all of the posters who ask for resume advice) town?
at my school, there were several, but my business fraternity had a special rate if you went to this one person...who was magnificent. i loved the aoppearance of my resume and she was able to really help me put together great action words for my work experience and to get some key bullets for school and work sections, etc etc.
i dont mind reviewing resumes to help improve ppl's chances, but it just seems that so many that we see on here are just not put together properly.
(to the OP...i am not attacking you. like i said, i like yours...you just got to trim it some. just thinking 'outloud' based on the recent mass of 'critique my resume' threads.)

There are definitely plenty, but the problem is that none of them are specialized in actuarial resumes. I went to a resume helper at my school (major act-sci school), and he kept insisting that I just a 'summary of qualifications' at the top, which included all of the fluffy stuff that actuaries hate. Also, he told me to include my exams in the education section, instead of having its own section.
I definitely think that people should go to the school (or someone else) for basic help, such as formatting and proper grammer. But if you want to impress actuaries with your resume, who better to go to for help than actuaries.
ETA: I also enjoy reading other people's resumes on here. I have changed my resume many times because of the suggestions on here.

I believe the best way to incorporate the information about possibly working in the fall would be to do a cover letter. In my experience applying for internships cover letters almost always helped get me the interview, so if there is a cover letter option do it.
I agree with shortening the work experience. It might help to put "Relevant Work Experience" and explain those, and then at the bottom you can add "Additional Work Experience" with only title and dates, but only if you have room.
You may also want to do some research on objective statements to fill it out or decide whether to take it out. And it should be Statistics tutor.
Hope this helps and good luck!!! There are still plenty of internship opportunities available, so I wouldn't worry too much. Most of the people I know didn't get their's until March and the process didn
t even start until mid-February.
