No. Not really. We use Frontline Plus. My vet says it is really good.

Fleas are relatively hard to get rid of due to the eggs which fall off the animal. You need to systematically "treat" your animal and the related areas (hard, home).

You may want to start your animal with a bath, immediately followed by a flea & tick dip. After a few days then treat with Frontline Plus. (For Front Line you need to wait a few days for the animal's oils to return so that the treatment spreads properly.)

Also treat all related infested areas: yard with spray (malothine, diazanon, dursban) and house (with a bomb).

If there are fleas, there probably are ticks also. Check the pet’s ears and between their toes for ticks. Use careful hygiene (gloves are a good idea) because ticks can transmit some diseases like Lyme diseases. Ticks are difficult because many shampoos don’t kill ticks effectively. For more info there is a animal catalog which includes some articles:
Dr Forester & Smilth and RC Steele.

When I got my big girl (older cat) about 7 years ago, she had fleas. The vet recommended Ovitrol mousse, I think it was called. I'd much rather mousse down someone with sharp claws than put them in a sink. Maybe they have something similar for dogs.
