Speaking of back, is Hagbard alive or just MIA?

Yes well the only reason I "won" my flight is because Ramanujan is still playing. I expect he will really win.
Nowhere to go but down! I've set myself up for a stunning collapse.

Speaking of this sort of domination, has there been an updated ratings list done lately?
Could we? Can I lend a hand?

Falco blundered a piece and resigned our game. I was up pawn before that, but he had the bishop's pair and in an open position, I am not sure the extra pawn would've been enough for the win. Good game Falco.

Thanks, you're too kind. During the last tourney I thought a lot of my moves through thoroughly. This time I'm opting for interesting off-the-cuff plays without too much thinking and I'm already paying dearly for it. Thx for the game.

Just admit it, you want to play in Group B for a change, and go 5-0.

I am set up to lose my remaining game, which means I will end up with 4 points - same as you. So you still win the group (albeit jointly but who cares) and the record of winning three straight season still stands. Well done!!

Car'a'carn (White) - CR agree to a draw - I had a perpetual check.
Move 18 may have been a bit of a gamble and didn't work out too well. As white had menacing pawns and the initiative, with my rooks stuck being passive. Luckily the perpetual offered me a chance to salvage a half point.

I wish I had had more time to analyze, but I thought I had a solid exchange sacrifice calculated out, but missed your followup.
17.a3 was bad, Qa3 would have been better.

It seemed to me, I was going to have an extra rook even after 24... fxe6 25. Bxe6+ Kg7 26. Kxd2 Qd6+.
17.a3 was bad, Qa3 would have been better.
True. Imo that did not lose the game though.

I got bishops vs his knights but the position closed up and I was at a loss how to attack until he got into a bad position. I had the advantage but nowhere to go with it. Good game!

Well, it's just fun to play! And when you catch someone who's never played it before in a blitz game it's even more fun when they play

Gene got caught early losing a piece and then threw back rank threats at me from move 17 on! 32...Rf8 was pretty sneaky threatening Qxg4. A move of my king's N (move 35) to the rim was the last nail in his coffin.

Yeah, I didn't really think you'd fall for any of the back rank mates, but I had to give it a try. In speed chess the Rf8 might have worked. Anyway, I played a sloppy opening and was fighting for life most of the way. Too much pressure on my K made it difficult to mount any real counter attack... good game Darth

CR (white) defeats Abstract Actuary. Some early initiatives for white followed by having the more active play in the middle game, although I almost gave it away to Blacks advancing King side pawns, which forced me to trade off to simplify the game.

Werewolf resigned to me. I spotted two neat tactics: one early on (5.e3-e4) and another more powerful one near the end (Nxf5...don't know what happens if he doesn't take...I figured I'd just move the N somewhere else and hope to capitalize on his exposed King) and after taking it, his position is in a bit of a mess with two pieces still not developed. The passed pawn looks far more menacing that it actually is, but the ton of checks I'm about to deliver might have lead to something.
Early on I completely expected his N to jump into d3 -- IMO, it would have looked a lot nastier than it was because there wasn't much (At the time) backing it up, plus I may have been able to undermine it with an f3 advance. It was a fun game.
The rest of the games are poking along.

Yeah, it was one of those things where I looked at it one point and said to myself that I can't move my knight to e6 [move 41]. Then went back to the game later, said hmm, e6 looks good, moved it and immediately cursed my stupidity. Probably should've resigned then but gave a vain effort for a draw, to no avail. good game procrastinator.

Are there any aids or anytthing where you can put moves in and it tells you where (and why) you suck?
I can put the moves in my chess engine on my computer. As you go along you see the moves it would have made. Sometimes the reasons become obvious (oh i could have won a pawn with a 2-move sequence i didn't see). Sometimes you just visualize better moves. But all I typically see is a numerical evaluatiuon of the position.

I just wish your king would have gone to h4! Qf5 would have been your doom! Sadly, I attributed to this draw as well -- I should have stopped your h5 advance and kept my K and Q on the same diagonal -- I think you'd have had a tough time fending off my pawn...oh well, next time maybe. It was a good game -- thanks!

I resigned out of an impossible situation with the black pieces to Darth Tater:
Good game...your king looks dominating but I think I'm gonna scoop a bunch of your pawns. This was really a neat game in the notes -- I mean what wasn't played could have been very interesting.
Move 20: If you would have played Nd5-b4, I'd have had to play Qb2 and try for an attack directly on your king (I don't think surviving after taking the R would have been easy).
Move 26: I could have taken the d5 pawn with a discovered attack on the a7 rook, but I think you woudl have had tons of counterplay on my 2nd rank.
Move 37: I totally expected you to snap off my rook and keep me on the defenses with your rook...with Rf2.
In any case it was a good game where I got to try a squirrely opening.

OddSox resigned to me in our game. I went up a piece early in this one and was just playing to trade down to a winning endgame when he resigned. Good game OddSox.

Sorry Group D - first my long-term internet outage, and now I'll be out of town for a week, with internet access somewhere between limited and severely limited.
RSF: If this is holding up the next round of games, go ahead and consider me 0-5 for this season.

It was a good game. Going up a piece near the end didn't seem to immediately neutralize your counterplay -- if I don't find 31... Bf3 I have to retreat my rook to the back rank to defend against the rook pin, and then your passed pawn will give me some problems, even with my bishop advantage.
For those interested, Bf3 threatened immediate mate with 32 ... Rh1. 33. g4 gives the king an escape square, but 33 ... f4 cuts the king off for good. The only way to stop the mate is 34. Qc4+ Kh8 35. Qc1 Rxc1 36. Rxc1 and black has queen and bishop for rook.
BTW, I'm remiss in not acknowledging my previous opponents yet  Thanks for the games to Werewolf, Darth Tater, and Gene Yuss. After leaving so many pieces hanging in my games with you guys, it was good to actually play well in my other games! Hopefully I'll give you guys a better game next time we meet.
Update on the final B game -- I'm up a bishop on procrastinator, but all major pieces are still on the board and both kings are pretty vulnerable, so the game isn't decided yet.

...up a bishop on procrastinator...keep it going!
 I'll try.
The interesting thing is, if I manage to convert my advantage, Procrastinator will have taken two losses in two sets of league games since s/he joined, and both would be to me, even though our results against other players would indicate that s/he's the better player. Funny how that works sometimes.

Darth, queens have gone off the board, I'm still up a bishop, Pro has a strong initiative. Still some game left.

Ramanujan & I are in a positional slugfest that is up to move 70 now and has some steam in it. I'm thrilled to have made it this long and so I'm going to keep fighting as long as I can. If and when R has a clear victory I'll resign, but it's very hazy still... :)
We just traded Q's but we have a second set coming online. He has a doubled-up passed pawn while I have only the unpassed variety.

Sorry Darth:oops:
I'll have to see what a computer thinks of the position right after the queen trade -- I'm up the bishop, but you've still got that really strong attack down the kingside with the two rooks while all my pieces are on the back rank doing very little. I'm wondering how much compensation a computer thinks you have there.
Good game.

Very exiting game. You played very well and should have won. I analyzed the game with crafty and you had the upper hand most of the time. Even in the end, forcing the queen exchange was a blunder, your king would have been able to stop my passed pawn and yours would have easily queened.

I had the upper hand with an extra pawn but the whole game was a struggle to survive your attack. Once I was able to do that things were looking up but the real pivotal moment was went you were able to put pressure on me and win back a pawn, I wasn't ready for that. In the end I was not trying to force a Q exchange I was just trying to get some sort of repetitive draw but that backfired pretty quickly. I'll have to get on Rybka, I can't believe I had any chance of winning at the end.

I know in the end you were trying to draw by repetition. It was me who forced the queen exchange and made the blunder. I miscalculated that your king could have stopped my pawn but crafty set me straight.

I have two games still in progress with UltimateAnyone and NotReallyMe.
We are 35 moves into the first. I'm up some material, but UA has some well placed pieces, so things are far from settled. The game built a lot of tension from the very beginning and has been interesting.
48 moves into the other, I am up a rook and three pawns to a single pawn. The rook is about the fall, but would be a cost of black's final pawn and black would seem unable to stop at least one pawn from queening...
Count me in for the next season!

UA? and I are in end game...won't be too much longer now...
I would like to play in XXV under Kohl.
Plus if anyone is looking for a game prior to that, please send a PM to Joe Blow, my booking agent. ;)

Is the UA? vs. notreallyme game still going on?
Technically, yes, but the moves aren't happening fast enough, and we got a late start.
Feel free to call it a draw if you wanna wrap this up (I think we're fairly even).
