Duo got charged up to run for rhino charity
27 May 2008
By Amy Burns
TWO Sheffield workers got charged up to take part in a 200km trek through Africa - while dressed in a rhino suit.
Kenneth Donaldson and Stephen Robins, who work for pension administrators Capita Hartshead, ran the distance over five days in aid of Save the Rhino International.
The race started in De Hoop National Park, South Africa and the team managed to raise £15,000.
Kenneth and Stephen ran the equivalent of a marathon a day while carrying an additional 20kg of rhino suit and supplies in temperatures which reached 30 degrees.
The route included running across tracks, beaches, cliff tops and roads.
"This was pretty tough - not least because I was carrying the equivalent of a third of my body weight," said Kenneth, director and senior actuary at Capita Hartshead.
"But it was definitely worth the effort as it really is such a good cause.
"It was a great experience and I would definitely consider doing something similar again."
Cathy Dean, director of Save the Rhino, said: "The Capita Hartshead team did a fantastic job and the money they raised will make a real difference."
