Any PowerPC users out there? Don't be shy. Tell all!
I'm seeing wonderful floating point performance and maybe with mathematica...

G4 machines uses dual processors (except for the lower ends like 533 I think, not
sure).
On other tests, especially applications, G4 beats P3 1 GHz significantly.
But on Multimedia performance(ie games), AltiVec and SSE performance comparison: 800 Dual ties with P4 1.6 GHz.
Note that even with SSE P4 1.6 GHz can't beat (similarly old) Athlon's FPU. (Athlon has the best FPU so far)
Now imagine how much better you can get with dual Athlon MP 1900+!
However, under SPECfp95 tests(no AltiVec or SSE), "scaling" all results to 500 MHz:
(fr http://macspeedzone.com/4.0/WinvsMacSPECint.html )
G4: 22.7
P3: 14.6
Athlon: 18.7
Disregarding any overheads, "scaling" to highest spec machines:
Dual G4 800: 72
+ With AltiVec: 145-218 (2-3 times)
Dual P3 1.26: 74
Dual Athlon 1900+: 125
Intel's website has some pretty impressive figures for SSE2 on P4 and Itanium using their Fortran compiler.

Thanks. I'd not seen dual Athlon machines before last night. The chip is listed as the Athlon MP.
There was a time when I could talk about computers the way Kimi talks about fireamrs. I mean firearms.
