I will have read about have way through the GRASP manual in a week. But that doesn't neccesarily mean that I actually understood or know what I read so far. I'm still not comfortable with how to study for this exam :-?. From what I've seen in previous posts, this is what I gather:

1. Memorize the starred flashcards
2. Kind of memorize the non-starred flashcards
3. Know all the calculations and practice the calculation problems from GRASP

What about all the other material on GRASP manuals? The ones that don't appear on the flashcards? How well are you suppose to know it?

Does anyone have any other tips on what to focus on?

I would appreciate any advice you can provide.

If you can afford the time/cost for a TIA seminar (Colin Condie), go. I found it to be worth it. I had the math down cold for passing DP last fall.
--this is not a paid advertisement.

It's too early to be "memorizing" lists. Review the material, and actually try to UNDERSTAND what they are talking about. So many questions in DP are about a PROCESS, so if you can understand the process (such as pricing a group based on experience), it will make recalling the list much easier.

Of course, much of the material is extremely dry, so if you want to skip over the book reading and just use the manual, that could be very advisable.

Cram like the dickens in the last 2 weeks.

Thanks Otley.

I've heard that from other people too about how important it is to understand the material well. I'll work on that. I'm not doing any text readings but I'm finding even some of the GRASP material to be dry.

I'm also finding that having read through the last DP exam is giving me a better understanding of what to focus on. I still have to look at the previous course 8 exams.

Cheers

I'm in the syllabus section on Taxation, and am about two weeks behind the GRASP suggested reading schedule.

Is anyone else just following the syllabus? It seems like a lot of people posting so far are just going through the study notes and/or old exams. This is my first time taking this exam, so I haven't been through any of these readings yet. I have the GRASP study notes, flashcards, and practice problems coming in the mail this week, but don't plan on using them heavily until I get through all the text reading, which hopefully will be end of August or early September.

My goal was to have it all done by the end of the month. I'm wading through learning objective 10 and I'm still not done with the Group Insurance readings. I can probably make it through 500 pages in a week right....?

I have no idea how ppl are memorizing this material. I understand most of the material but I have no idea how I'm going to memorize the lists and flashcards...its just too many!!!

I'm pretty overwhelmed as well. I finished the readings and have now gone through the GRASP "full" outline once. Now I'm almost done with the 45 problems given, I'm 1/10th of the way through the condensed outline and I've read through all the *'ed notecards once.

I think I'm going to spend another 2-3 weeks reading though the cards and outlines and working the problems before I really start memorizing hard core. Right now, I'm just trying to go through everything over and over, trying to fully understand and make it stick. I'll probably also hit the readings again for stuff I need to touch up on. I first had started with the cards by trying to memorize them one by one, but I think it will help to get super familiar with them first.

Btw, this is my first time with any essay test so I'm flying blind. It's so intimidating to look at these questions where I'll have to pull these lists out of my tiny brain muscle.

now, this is depressing for me... just reading through Learning obj 1-6 (finishing up 6 and using MATE) and starting to memorize using MATE flashcards.... kinda my fault to start only end of July after my FA...

i think my game plan is to finish up reading all learning objs before attending MATE seminars, and then just plan memorizing and doing problems after that... first timer on the essay exam, kinda nervous.. just thinking about it....

well good luck tho
