I know y'all have been waiting for this, and I hate to see everyone get nervous about it not being here, so with out further ado....

Returning for its EIGHTH year, and more popular than ever:

:wav: :wav: :wav:

**********

Welcome to Survivor Fantasy Football 2008!

We're in our eighth season of playing this game, and it draws a lot of attention, so c'mon down and join the fun!

The rules are fairly straight forward:

Each week you will select 1 QB, 1 RB, and 1 WR/TE.
You get 1 pt per yard rushing or receiving.
You get 1 pt per 2 yards passing (no half-points)
You get 30 pts for throwing a TD, 60 pts for scoring one (via rush or reception; no returns)

Add up everyone's score, and the person with the lowest weekly score is booted, and the highest score will get a Booster (Booster rules explained below). If more than one person is to be booted in a given week, it will be announced at the beginning of that week. We will only boot one person in Week 1.

Last person standing gets the fame and fortune associated with winning the most popular Actuarial Outpost sports game, and possibly a prize as well (Tom'll come through, I'm sure!).

There are only two other rules when making your picks:

(1) You may not repeat any player in the season.
(2) For a given week, you may not repeat another entrant's triplet.

Once you have a Booster, it can be played actively or passively:

Active: If you say that you are using it in a given week when you declare your picks, the Booster will be worth 100 points.
......Note: You must declare that you are using your booster when you submit your picks.

Passive: If the person in last place has a Booster, the Booster will be applied passively, but it will only be worth 50 points.
......After the first Booster is applied, the process will be repeated until the person in last place has no boosters left.

*****
So do you play Tom Brady right away, or do you hold on to him until he gets a real favorable matchup? If you hold him, you may not make it!!

What happens if there is a tie for last place in any given week?
ALL folks with the lowest score will be booted! (I don't wanna deal with any tie-breaker stuff.)

What if there's a tie for first place?
NO Booster will be awarded. (Ya gotta win it outright!)

Post your triplet in this thread. You may not choose the same triplet as someone else for the same week. You may only submit your selection once, so please do not edit your post. If you edit your post, you will be booted from the game! All picks are due by Friday at 5 pm Central Time or the first kickoff of the week, whichever is earlier. I will try to post the "official" submissions each week sometime Friday afternoon, with everything grouped together. (The commissioner reserves the right to allow late picks, as long as they are before the first kickoff. That being said, don't count on the commissioner being benevolent at all times! The Commissioner's rulings are final in all cases. If your picks are in before I post the summary, you're safe.)

Week 1 exception: You have until 11 a.m. Sunday to post your picks. You may not use players from the Thursday night game (WAS @ NYG).

Last year we had 45 people play, so we were easily able to take this to the end of the season - let's see if we can break that this year! (Surely we can get more entrants here than in some silly Rock-Paper-Scissors tournament....)

Let me know if I've missed something, or if you have any questions.

One additional comment (2008 specific): Similar to what happened with your game host in 2004, I'm in the middle of a job move and thus my internet access may be sporadic for the first few weeks as I settle down. In addition, I will be travelling most weekends and thus I may not have the results as quickly as I have had them in the past. Your patience as I go through this transistion will be appreciated.

Ultimate, you should sue.

From FFtoday.com

Now that Week 1 is here, its time to play! We've put a little spin on the traditional Survivor Pool, gave it a fantasy twist, and came up with 3 And Out! Here's your chance to win a cool $5000 All the details can be found at the link above but here's the basics...

- Pick 1 QB, 1 RB and 1 WR each week of the NFL season
- You cannot pick the same player twice
- If your players score the required fantasy points for their position, you advance
- If your player(s) fail to score the required fantasy points, you are out at that position
- If you are eliminated at all 3 positions, you are out of the contest
- Last person still standing - our survivor - the $5K Champ!

I am sure that Requiem meant Roy Williams and not Reggie Williams.

That's my guess as well, but a lot of times early in the game they'll play the Reggie, thinking this is the week to use lesser players. (After all, they won't be the one person that's eliminated this week, right?)

More importantly, we need people to get in the habit of being specific, and with the clarification I don't need to put on my commissioner's hat.

My score for the week: 336 Points
Pretty craptastic, luckily there is only 1 elimination this week.

Warner: 197 yards passing + 1 td = 98 + 30 =128 pts
Lynch: 76 yards rushing + 18 yards receiving + 1 td = 76 + 18 + 60 = 154
Shockey: 54 yards receiving = 54 pts

If more than one person is to be booted in a given week, it will be announced at the beginning of that week. We will only boot one person in Week 1.

I assume UA will let us know how many will be booted week two when he post the official results from week 1 he was very good doing that last year.

Congrats to KidRock for winning the first booster of the season!

Meanwhile, Car'a'carn becomes the first victim of the year. Apparently the Hardy longshot pick was a little too much of a stretch for the survivor football gods.

We will be booting THREE people this week. And for you rookies, this is three people who have submitted triplets. If someone doesn't submit a triplet, they, too, are booted, but they do not count towards the official bootee count. Also, if there's a tie at the bottom, all people will be booted (there are no tie-breakers to save you). So don't get too comfortable thinking you've got it made if we are missing people - their absence won't help you!

A reminder for the remaining 5 folks - from the first post in thread (emphasis on the bolded part):

All picks are due by Friday at 5 pm Central Time or the first kickoff of the week, whichever is earlier. I will try to post the "official" submissions each week sometime Friday afternoon, with everything grouped together. (The commissioner reserves the right to allow late picks, as long as they are before the first kickoff. That being said, don't count on the commissioner being benevolent at all times! The Commissioner's rulings are final in all cases. If your picks are in before I post the summary, you're safe.)

... and being as I'm traveling a lot on the weekends, I'd really like to have this completed sooner than later (i.e. my benevolence factor isn't likely to be favorable for a while...).

Since it's the weekend and a game getting moved for a hurricane is exceptional. If he doesn't get back in time maybe he could be "assigned" a RB for the week. L. Johnson seems to be the top pick this week with 8 people selecting him so I'd recommend him as SOAPhobic's backup RB unless he shows up and makes the change himself.

That's not a bad idea. It's an unusual circumstance, and thus not directly addresseed in the rules. The only thing I don't like about it is that I'm actually assigning a player to a team, and maybe he was saving that player for later (or he had a different second choice). If that player does well, I don't mind, but if LJohnson ends up tanking, then I feel really bad.

I'll try to think of something to make it fair (maybe use the average RB score, and assign it to RRice?) - I really don't think SOAPhobic should get a zero at RB this week.

Any other ideas people wanna throw out there?

Avg score not best since it gives an advantage over many of teams. Without being overly punitive, lower of MODE and MEAN since a popular pick could insulate person from elimination if another player has very high week. Also, team should HAVE to pick impacted player(s) at some point in remainder of season (unless questionable or worse in every game).

bones is looking very solid to win the Week 2 booster, barring a 500+ night outta McNabb.

At the moment only jingle47 is guaranteed to be booted - the penalty was just too much to overcome.

Meanwhile, there's the issue of how to deal with SOAPhobic's RB situation. So far I think Kid Rock's idea of min(MEAN, MODE) is the most reasonable I've seen or thought of.
If that's the case, I calculate:
RB MEAN = 107.92 (counting each selected RB once) or 82.6 (counting each entrant once)
RB MODE = average of (BJacobs, LJohnson, RGrant) = 45.7 [each RB was selected 8 times]
So min(MEAN, MODE) = 45, SOAPhobic would be safe and Pillow would also be out, and Schnook would need less than 107 outta McNabb to survive.

(Note: the above method is not official yet; I'm open to other suggestions, but I'd like a methodology that'll also work in other unusual circumstances.)

Of course, I'll be disappointed if I'm booted because this scenario and I won't think anything is fair. :P

And to think I put so much work into my spreadsheet for what may be only 2 weeks?

What happened to those people who didn't get Bal/Tex players out of their FF lineups? I believe they got a big fat zero. It's not the FF websites fault that the team managers didn't show up to manage their teams.

I believe that they communicated the situation with the game far enough in advance to get people's butts in action to change their rosters - including this pool. But, I'm just sour grapes right now.

It's true that a lot of people still had people from the games in their FF lineups over the weekend. When I replaced Andre Johnson on Sunday morning he was still listed as a starter for about 80% of teams.

I actually agree with Pillow here.

What we could do would be to leave SOAp with a 0 for RB, see where the chips fall, and then give him a pass for the week (so if he's bottom 3, only boot the other 2). This way Pillow (or Schnook if McNabb has a good night) doens't get screwed.

My vote is to make RRice a 0. No reason to kick someone else out that didn't play a hurricane affected player. SoaPh. had a chance (a small chance, honestly) to make it right.

My 2 cents

I agree with 0

1) The game postponement was a last second occurance
2) It is bad luck, but so is a practice injury after picking
3) No matter how it goes Rice should be ineligible for him for future weeks

I picked Larry Johnson and got 22 yards, I can't see him getting 45 for a known event w/o trying to make a last minute fix

If you choose to not boot him, that is your decision, but someone else should not go in his place

Well, being as picks cannot be changed in this game at all (once you've posted your triplet, that's it!), it's fair to assume that picks couldn't be changed. I also want this game to be done during the work week, and not require others to check in on the weekends. So the "tough luck" card doesn't sit well with me.

However, I really don't care for the above solution either, but up until that point it was the best I had. Hence the reason I was still looking for a better solution.

Okay, this is the winner. We're definitely early enough that we can absorb an extra bootee in a later week, and no one else is affected wrongly.

(Please note that this was an extremely unusual circumstance, folks - we're doing the best we can to keep the situation fair to all parties involved. Your patience is appreciated.)

If only 2 are booted and SOAp kept, no one is being punished, SOAp is just catching a break

:iatp:

Or just give him Ryan Grant :)

It should be a 0. He had time to change it.

No offense but Ray Rice is a backup RB splitting carries with 2 other guys. 0 isnt probably far off from what he wouldve scored.

He had 22 carries and caught 3 passes in their opener.

And that's why you do so much better at this game that I do. :toast:

There was no time to change. As of Friday, the game was postponed to tonight. Saturday was the first I heard the announcement that game would be in Nov. Can't expect everyone to be available to change picks on a weekend.

Fair decision to me. Good call UA!

Sounds good to me - and Pillow was out either way since McNabb had a nice game...

A thousand thank you's UA!!

Q: Is there any specific time that we can start posting our picks for next week??
I do not want to lose this triplet!
