This poll was done for the exam last year. Just wondering where people are falling. I understand that hours closer to the exam should be weighted more than hours farther away, and the # of hours to pass is different for each person. Don't count hours you spent on prior sittings.

I calculated 1200 potential hours for me to study (non-work hours), including vacation days (yes, I study on vacation days...), holidays, company paid study time and personal time.
I assume I watched about 350 hours of television since I started studying, and included unforseen event hours of about 150 hours (e.g., staying late at work, a concert, just feeling like crap and not wanting to study) so I assume about 700 hours studied.
I took APMV in May and studied around 800+ hours, but most of it was done with the TV on, so it was probably only about 25% effective. This time all studying was done without television or internet, so I attribute about 95% effectiveness... probably around 660 hours. And that's with 20% overlap from APMV. I couldn't believe you capped it at 450+. The SOA recommends 100 hours per hour of exam... not that anyone would listen to the SOA's recommendations, but still. You have to assume some variability.

If you pass and I fail, I will be forced to hate you. Hell, even if we both fail and you get a similar score to mine, I will hate you as well. If I pass, I really don't care what anyone else did.

Well, it really doesn't matter what the SOA recommends, it just matters how much everyone else studies. I can see that putting in a few more choices would have been helpful. I just know there is no possible way I'll get more than 500 hours for any sitting since I have family with 2 little ones.

I would say I also studied about 1,200 hours. Well, if you don't count procrastination and watching tv while study or on youtube while studying, I would say I only studied 600 hours by exam time. Even 600 I think might be overstatement since I tend to flip through articles that I thought I understood quickly in the beginning and had to go back to them in the end. So I would say only about 500 hours hardcore study without distracting.

I think you should cap at 700 hours. I think most people who pass this exam will need to study over 450 hours? Is it possible to pass with less than 450 hours of studying? Even to pass exam C you need 400 hours of studying.

For my first essay exam which was this one, I got a 5 with 350 hours. For AFE, I got a 6 with 420 hours. I'm counting on passing with less than 450 hours this time. I'm worried that the competition is getting harder though.

It looks like people are studying more for this FETE exam than they did for last year's FET exam.

Sorry - I don't think 15 people is a representitive sample. Plus, there is no "less than 250" option.
