It has been out for awhile. It is much better than Napster ever was.

Can I get free MP3's there?

Somewhat related site: http://www.icezip.com. (it's run by one of the tech's I contract). It's for downloading winamp skins, apparently 3rd largest in the world.

He's working on something else, something opensource. Apparently going to be huge, but I can't tell anyone what it is. His secret is safe, because I didn't have a clue what he was talking about. If I figure it out I'll let you know.

Yes you can, much faster downloads than Napster, much more organized too.

It's awesome.

This isn't like the MP3 sites that are listed on http://www.blowmeuptom.com are they? (Warning, do not access these from work!!!)

It's not a site. It's software like Napster used to be. Get it from download.com.

Should I be concerned that only Anonymous users are posting for this?

Don't worry. They know what they are talking about. I got my copy of Morpheus from http://www.MusicCity.com

Frankly, I think Kazaa works better. Almost identical, but IMO it's a bit more stable.

I downloaded Rush Hour 2 and a fully working copy of Office XP Professional from Morpheus.

I've been using Morpheus for quite some time, but I've never been able to get an mp3 of better quality than 128/44. I think this is why it goes faster than Napster, unless I'm way out of it. Anyone notice / have this prob too?

You can tell if it's 192 vs. 128 based on the size of the file. 192 files are usually around 5-7 megs, 128's are around 3-4 megs.

It's faster because it does something ingenious and awesome. If you want a song that say 10 people have, then it splits the song into 10 pieces, and downloads a piece from each one of those people. That way your download speed isn't limited by the upload speed of the other person. Isn't that cool?

<font size=2>Rather, 128bps equates to ~1 MB/minute, while 192bps equates to ~1.5 MB/minute.

(It's silly to give a standard size when the lengths of songs can vary.)

But the lengths of songs more or less don't vary. The info you use to distinguish isn't provided by Morpheus.

<font size=2>That's funny. Most of the songs in my collection are quite a bit longer (and occasionally shorter) than the standard 3-4 minute, corporate, radio-friendly, me-unfriendly, lowest-common-denominator crap-songs that have been plaguing the airwaves for decades now (with a few exceptions scattered here and there, of course).

Last I know, there is a version of Morpheus, but the search engine (?) is not as user friendly as the prior version. Most people I know use Kazaa (Kazaa Lite).

I just have to say that I love Kazaa. I have no access to good tv here so I just download all of my tv shows.. And I find I am able to get most shows that I like quite quickly...sometimes even before my friends can see the shows in Canada...Yippie..

i've been using kazaa for months and love it. the alt.binaries newsgroups are good as well but you usually have to pay for a server that receives complete posts and has a good retention.
