Yes.

>Approximately how many exams? all of them?

http://www.dwsimpson.com/salary.html has a salary survey that indicates that you need not have all of them to achieve $100K, but with several years of experience.

>And would this have to be in consulting?

No. Insurers, reinsurance cos., brokers, and other non-consulting firms with actuaries also have actuaries making above $100K.

really? 80k is low even with only 3 exams? If you were talking about 5 or 6 exams I would agree that it's low, but it does not seem low for someone with no letters, or really with little prospect for qualification?

$80k is low for three exams?

To the original question: Generally, in a medium COL area (big city, not NYC, SF, Boston), I think $100k is probably average for a new Fellow. Consultants are probably a bit higher, as are high-performing Associates. $100K (or more) is probably possible for a select few students who work a huge number of hours in consulting.

I felt $80K was low because the person has 6 years of experience and IMO the experience itself worths more than 80K.

I have met non-ASA actuaries who made partners and from what I can tell, he is macking it hard

whoa there Anonymous... "non-ASA actuaries"? Assuming the person in question doesnīt have an EA or XCAS behind his name, itīs time to drop "actuary" from his job description.

Heīs just a partner in a consulting firm, probably valued for the clients he brings in, not his actuarial work since he canīt sign AOMīs, reliance letters, etc.

You probably mean that the person is an Enrolled Actuary (3 exams) then $80K is reasonable.
