I've talked to many educated and thoughtful people and they all have a real underlying dread about a potential McCain presidency. I'm talking about people that have done some living (i.e. they are over 40), have managed to be successful in life, and have a more than media/internet driven understanding of history, economics and the world at large.

a) The nation's enemies will use this as an opportunity to threaten our national security. His warmongering policies and questionable psychological state (as a result of his captivity) will tempt nations to strike at us first.

b) His ineptness in handling a situation. Witness how he reacted to the economy during his campaign. This could cause real national damage not seen since....well, the current administration.

c) His erratic behaviour will cause damage in whatever other crises could come our way. Our enemies see this in him and will pounce when they get the chance.

d) He might die and leave Sarah in charge

e) He might live and put Sarah in charge (a la Bush and Cheney)

f) He will implement a Bush agenda that will be the death knell to the American cultural value of meritocracy that has driven the American economic engine, thus the great American experiment will end.

What frightens you the most about a McCain presidency?

Honestly, it's that you might stop posting in political and I'd miss your avatars.

But, his feeling that being involved in two Middle East wars just isn't enough is pretty scary.

I think McCain could be a good president. In fact if the Republicans elected him instead of the Bush we would be in better shape today.

His choice of running mate is profoundly troubling. Not only is she dumb, it appears she's corrupt and quite fanatical.

I agree, I would have appreciated him as President in 2000 and 2004, and would have supported a mixed ticket of Gore-McCain or Kerry-McCain.
