You have to be kidding.
If I'm going to pass, then I don't mind knowing sooner (can enjoy the holidays and get the raise sooner); however, if I'm going to fail, I'd rather not know until I'm done studying for CSP... forget this "re-study immediately" stuff.
I'm impressed if the SOA can deliver before Christmas (I know central grading will be the first week of December). It seems like, given the holidays, that if they aren't out by the 19th (7 weeks), though, that they won't be out until the 9th of January (10 weeks), which is what I'm expecting.

From Bruce in an MFE thread. Don't know if maybe only prelims might be out before Christmas, or all exams.
I'm not going to make any specific promises other than we have reduced processing time to the barest possible minimum without lowering our standards. Before Christmas? Who knows? We'll do what we can.

I think most of us have seen the SOA miss enough unofficial deadlines not to give that post much credibility until results are actually seen or an official release date is announced.

And what's the deal with the exam archive page not being updated for this sitting?
http://www.soa.org/education/resources/edu-multiple-choice-essay-examinations.aspx
Even if they are not going to release any exams, I would still expect to see a section that says "Fall 2008 - No exams will be released".
Is this something that they cut out of the process to speed up the grading? <j/k>

The whole site is being redesigned and released on November 12th, when all the fall sitting exams are done. (There are still some FM exams offered by CBT until next week sometime). I'm guessing they will release/say they are not releasing exams with the new site. I'm also hoping they will give us a better ideda of when to expect results on November 12th.

And so the SOA has given no indication of ANY KIND as to when to expect results. I find that odd; even if they don't want to commit to anything they can't do, at least they should ballpark it.
Since when is Bruce the official spokesperson for announcements? And since when does his announcement on AO suffice as an official announcement? I take it as nothing more than insider info. The SOA should definitely work on its communication with candidates. This is ridiculous - they've said nothing.

Ya, that's a good point. People who don't come to the outpost have absolutely no indication as to when results should be out (except for the fact that it's generally the 1st or 2nd Friday of January).

I'm sure they'll post something at some point. If they wait a little maybe they can see if they're keeping up with their optimistic schedule before choosing a date officially, and risking not being able to keep that official commitment.
BTW, "I'm sure" isn't really true, since I've seen the SOA do unreasonable things before. I guess I should say that it's too soon to judge, and they could still put up a date.
Victor The Eagle
11-12-2008, 08:14 PM
Amen. By not committing to a date, the SOA is giving itself a chance to release results early. If we force the SOA into a firm deadline now, they will not chance it and just say "the first Friday in January". No news is actually good news here.

True, but I would either expect the SOA to say the expected date is mid-January, and have Bruce post a leak on AO about early release, or have the SOA declare that they are working with a new schedule and that they cannot give a release date, but it will be no later than February.
Just having Bruce and nothing else is what is bothering me.

That's great, except that January 2 is actually nine weeks and one day. That doesn't seem like too much shortening to me. They always release results on a Friday. If they wait until January 9 they will be late again (they were beyond ten weeks for the Spring 2008 CSP sitting results). So much for shortening the grading period. :rimshot:

For those of you who heard the date of January 2 directly from the SOA...did you specify that you wanted to know about the upper exam results? I'm sure you did, but I'm just curious, because I was checking out the posts for the lower exams and it sounds like they were told January 2 as well. So either they are no longer separating the results by a week...or ours won't be till the 9th :-(

Can you imagine how busy the servers for the SOA and the AO are going to be if they release (or people believe that they will release) all the exam results on one day? Hopefully, it being the Friday after a holiday will mean some people are on vacation, but still...

Strategery,
As you say, any rational person would understand that results would need to be completed days/weeks before the release date to allow for any anomolies or issues that could pop up late in the process.
But, that is not what the SOA would have us believe:

From my experience with the 2007 exams, the "advice" that's provided is very limited. Basically, you receive a score breakdown of how you did on each question, where you get a score of 0-10 on each problem on the exam.
