MFE is going to be completely overhauled. Anyone that registers now will have access to the old online seminar until Dec 31st. At that time the old seminar will disappear. We are working now and getting the new seminar started. We hope to have a large portion (25%+) by the end of the year.

What's going to change?

Nothing on the syllabus is going to change. However, we have received lots of great feedback from students and we also have more information (3rd hand from students) about what kind of questions they are asking on the exam. Bill has a better understanding now of how to prepare the student for the exam. So we are re-recording all the lessons, adding problems and changing the practice exams.
If I were you, I would wait until the new stuff starts coming out before I start to study. Then again I never studied before exam results were released. If you are really eager to start now then that is no problem. Everything Bill taught in the old seminar is correct (except for a few typos here and there), but we just want to make it better. So you can watch the old seminar now and then when the new seminar starts coming out you can watch the new lessons. You'll be watching lessons covering the same material twice, but that can only help you.

Actually, there have been a few changes in the syllabus. The section on "binomial trees with discrete dividends" has been removed, and a few sections have been added; however, with the exception of the section on "asset-or-nothing" and "all-or-nothing" options, there doesn't seem to be much actual "new" material covered, but rather going into more detail on some of the existing material.

I will also post that on the 2009 version of the seminar. You should be able to access the 2009 version by clicking on "My Stuff" in the top right after you login. Click on "Joint Exam 3F/MFE Online Seminar" and it will take you to the 2009 version.

FWIW, in the study schedule I constructed I assumed that students would take a weekend and a week to celebrate and start studying January 12th.

Having problems using my credit card on the website and I can not get through to your customer service even though I accept the charge. help please!!!Do you mean the customer service telephone number isn't work or just that nobody answers? We only have one person for customer service (we are a small company after all). She isn't always available to answer the phone, but if you leave a message then she will get back to you within 1 business day (so if you leave a message at 6 pm on Friday then your call might not be returned until Monday).

Also what type of credit card are you trying to use? We don't accept american express so if you are trying that one then you will need to use a 3rd parter seller (either theactuarialbookstore.com or actex.com). Please note that if you register through a 3rd party that your order will not be processed instantly as we have to wait until they notify us of the purchase.

The calling issue... It could be that it is an international call....
I was not using an American express but I will try the third party (Actuarial bookstore) since I never had probls with my card there.
Thanks for the prompt response!!!

Let me know if that doesn't work. If you need to talk to customer service and can't get the number to work then PM me your telephone number and I'll have her call you. Let me know if I can do anything else.

I am not getting the same value as the solution. My final answer is $5,763.40. I've calculated d1 = .02 and d2 = -.03. The solution states the caplet is worth $4620.54 which would give the Put a value of $4620.54/(1.09*300,000)= $.01413. I'm valuing the Put as $.0176. Can someone confirm the solution?

JFrazier283,
You are correct.
I use a spreadsheet for these, and have to "remind" it that I need to truncate values to 2 or 4 digits. In this case, it "rounded" -0.032 by first adding 0.005, and then "truncating down" from -0.027 to -0.02.
Thanks for pointing this out! I'll try to have this (and a few other things) fixed ASAP.

Bill,
1) I understand the video solution up to the point (0.25)(sigma^2) + (0.091924)(sigma) - (0.049108) = 0. However, I do not get a positive root of 0.387901. Instead, I calculate the root as 0.295977.
2) Also, the solution to #2 in the Problem Set states 'gives the quadratic equation...' I believe the equation that follows should read 1/2T*(sigma^2)+0.13(T^(1/2))*(sigma)...
Could you verify your solution?

I am calculating the volatility of the put option as 0.2497 (same as the solution) but my answers for d1, d2 of the call option are different. Can anyone tell me where I am making my mistake?
d1(call)
= [ln(So/K)+(r-delta)(T)]/(sigma*(T^1/2)) + .5(sigma)(T^1/2)
= [ln(60/60)+(.09)(1.5)]/(.2497*(1.5^1/2)) + .5(.2497)(1.5^1/2)
= [.135]/.306 + .153
= .59
Thanks!
