View Full Version : Things I'll Miss About College, Part 1.

1. Being Poor. Stocking up on $1 Totino's Pizzas and thinking they're the best god damn thing ever. Constantly buying "Manager's Specials" at the supermarket. Staying thin not because you watch what you eat, but because you can't afford to eat. Arguing with roommates about what the thermostat should be set at, and when is the appropriate time of year to stop using A/C altogether. Refusing to ever use the heater because you can always just wear more layers of clothes. Asking your friends to come over for a "party" when your real motive is to use their body warmth to heat the apartment. Using women's liberation as an excuse to not pay for a girl's dinner during a date and telling her she'd be setting women back 50 years if she let you pay for dinner. Playing the "oh I forgot my wallet" game if that doesn't work.

2. Roommates. Having your roommates constantly mess up your game by telling the girls you bring home your real name. Having your roommate decorate your already funky looking apartment with Christmas lights and beer cans to make it look nice. Having to hear your roommate and his girlfriend have sex ALL of the TIME, and then have him come tell you about it afterward.

3. College Girls. Having to talk to girls who sound like they just graduated kindergarten. Trying to be a shiny thing they follow. Competing with rainbows and unicorns for their attention. Meeting some girl who insists you call her "Princess" for the rest of the night.

4. Never Doing Laundry. Going commando not because you like it, but because you ran out of clean underwear and are too lazy to do the laundry. Stretching out the length of time you can wear every piece of clothing to its limit. Being convinced that you never have to wash jeans, ever. Smelling your clothes before you put them on. Spraying cologne on clothes that you think smell weird, and then declaring them clean.

5. Going to the bars with no money. Getting really drunk before you go to a club so you don't have to buy any drinks. Refusing to go to clubs with cover. Trying to get your friends to buy you drinks. Trying to get girls to buy you drinks. Trying to get your girlfriend to let a guy hit on her, get a drink from him, and then give it to you.

6. Clubbing. Not meeting one girl that's actually 21 the whole night you're out. Dancing with some girl whose face you've never seen. Practically having sex with a girl on the dance floor and then her ignoring you 10 minutes later when you try to actually speak to her.

7. Sitting around talking about BS like "fight the power" and "recognizing individuality" and "existentiality" - usually, but not always, while drunk - and thinking that you actually have any clue at all as to how the world works and what any of that means.

I know, staying out past 10 now is a big deal. I used to be able to drink all night and pull an all nighter and still sort of go to class, or sleep.

It's terrible. I used to stay up until 1 or 2 on the morning no matter what time I had class the next day. Now there are nights where I'll fall asleep watching television... AT NINE!

I also miss being able to schedule my classes so I could start drinking for the weekend at 1 on Fridays. I would have started earlier, but there was pick-up basketball to be played from 11:30-1:00.

Since I was out until last call last night and up until 2:30, I definitely miss being able to blow off morning responsibilities.

I thought I'd miss how amazingly easy it was to hook up with girls, but not having to deal with college girl bullshit totally makes up for that.

The best is the morning after Halloween when you seem them doing this and they are still wearing, at least partly wearing, their trashy costume from the night before.

lol, so true

i miss friday afternoons, drinking during my final class of the day (remember those cheap platic coffee mugs from the mid 90s, well they're good for holding copious amounts on amaretto sour too), going for $4 pitchers of frozen margaritas beginning at 4 PM, passing out until 10, waking up, drinking until midnight, and the going out to bars for the rest of the night. sigh.

Totino's Party Pizzas rocked!!

 at college roomate story. Had a roomate who brought home a girl (call him Dave), next day no clue what her name was so he asked other roommate (Pat) to introduce himself.

Pat to Girl: 'Hi My name is Pat'
Girl: 'Hi Pat'
Pat to Dave: 'Sorry dude I tried'
Girl immediately to Dave: 'What's my name?'

Hillarity ensued.

Skipping class because it was too cold to walk 20 minutes to class, then just lying in a warm bed for an extra hour and then making hot chocolate with a little peppermint schnapps when I did role out of bed. This was my tradition for freezing cold minnesota days.

There are aspects of college that I miss (being relatively carefree.... having extended time off for vacations and during summer.... and the girls). Partying was fun at times, but other times it seemed more of a chore. I don't really miss that. I usually preferred to hang out with a group of friends and drink in a more grown-up establishment (where we could actually be heard without having to scream) as opposed to going to the loud, crowded, popular college type bars.

I also miss being young.... my first born child is 10 years away from being a college freshman. I'm 20 years away.

Diet mainly includes:

Totinos, Mexican Style and Supreme
Michelina's Noodles Stroganoff, Penne with Chicken
Banquet Swedish Meatballs
PBJ
Frozen Waffles
Top Ramen: Oriental, Beef, Chicken
Maruchan cup noodles: lime chili with shrimp(felt cheated because there weren't shrimp in most of them)
Eggs
Chinese food takeout from this 1 place that's really cheap.

Can't believe I'm still alive, after 6 years on this crappy diet.

Though the things I'll miss about being in school, is the freedom of schedule. Sleeping in, waking up then looking at the clock followed by a groaning "no". Where a nice meal is KFC family size takeout shared by 4 people, always wondering where the mashed potatoes went even though it was supposedly large size. Being part of a pocket-bike gang. So many memories.

More so in undergrad than grad school though. I'll also miss the crazy parties, the insane amounts of drinkage and morning-after regrets, with the "I'm never going to drink again" lies I keep telling myself.

OP sums up most of it. It's fun reminiscing though.

These have been mentioned, but:

1) Being able to schedule class to avoid waking up early and, failing that, being able to blow it off with non-trivial frequency.

2) Being able to study whatever looked appealing. If there had been a class on Reserving and Reinsurance in college, it wouldn't have been at the top of the list.

For all of those reminiscing about Totino's Party Pizzas... I have bad news for the youth of America.

Totino's those greedy businessmen, or the local grocer, have raised the price 30% overnight!!

It now costs $1.29 for that lovely meal instead of $1.

I demand outrage.

There is probably already a Facebook group about it... maybe I should just join that instead.

 Good call. Especially bad when Halloween falls on a Saturday so the walk of shame is viewed by church goers. (At least that was my roughest walk of shame....1987 I think)

1. Naps. Naps are the most underrated thing in college. I love stuffing my face at lunch and pass out right afterwards.

2. Classes are cancelled for unpleasant weather situations such as rain, snow, too humid/hot or too windy. It was in the student handbook (written by me).

3. No one will think you are an alcoholic as long as you don't start drinking before noon.

Another variation of the care free attitude:

I didn’t really go to class much one semester so I totally forgot that I had a late start class (meaning it started about 2-3 weeks after the regular classes started). Well I didn’t go to that class for like 2 weeks until I was talking to one of my friends about my class load and we figured out I was “missing” a class. The teacher dropped me from the class by the end of the first week but I was able to beg her to let me back in. Ahh, good times.

They decreased the volume over the years (like every other product). I'm sure you'll still be able to find the 4/$4 "deal."

I also love paying for 1/2 gallon of ice cream, but only getting 3/8 gallon. But that is way off topic.
