What is the availability of work likely to be for an Australian qualified PC actuary with 5-10 years experience?

What chance visa sponsorship?

While we've placed Australian actuaries in the US, Canada & Bermuda, the path of least resistance is definitely Canada & Bermuda as Australians don't have as many visa hoops to jump through, and experience seems to translate a little better in those other countries. But you've got a good shot in the US too, though. You're more likely to get in for interviews with companies if you're already planning to visit the US for other reasons. Contact us at http://www.dwsimpson.com/cform.html if you'd like a recruiter to touch base and see what we can do for you.

How about the reverse situation?: placing an American actuary in Australia or the UK? I'm sure the visa process is involved....

We've successfully placed US actuaries in both the UK and Australia, but the probability of success depends on the actuarial discipline and level of the student/designated actuary. Our experience with Australia has been that once a US actuary gets an offer there, there may be issues of the compensation/COL ratio there versus the US ratio, because it's usually lower. In the UK, it's harder for them to look at students than designated actuaries, but they can and do look at both.

Hurdles in those countries to US actuaries come more from supply/demand in the particular discipline, more than any visa restrictions.
