Hi I was hoping to get some opinions for an econ VEE submission.

In college I took Macro as a freshmen, essentially coasted through it, didn't put in a ton of effort, and got a C. When I got more serious about my education (soon after I decided to pursue an actuarial career) I took Micro, got an A, and also completed a Resourse Economics course, which was pretty similar to Micro, and I earned an A in that as well. SOA only recognizes the Macro and Micro courses as counting towards VEE, and needing a minimum of a B-.

So here I am with a C in Macro, an A in Micro, and an A in 'Resource Economics'. Is there any chance this would suffice for my econ VEE? I've already graduated and so it's too late to load up one semester and retake Macro to get a better grade, but if I can prevent having to complete another Macro course it'd be great! Any thoughts??

Call the phone # on the VEE application and ask!

Thanks for the quick response. I'll be sure to do that. I'm assuming I can find the application on the SOA website?

If they don't accept it, don't take another course! Check out the CLEP test alternative. See the thread CLEP = CAKE. It is cheaper, easier, and more convenient!

Okay thanks I'll check it out. And I did find the VEE application but don't see a phone number, just an address. Does anyone have this # or am I just not finding it.

The number on the application for course approval is: 847-706-3500

Also if you go to http://www.soa.org/files/pdf/edu-vee-guidelines.pdf that lists what topics should be covered for a course to receive approval. If your Resource Econ course covers the topics listed for Micro, than submit it and you should get approval. If not, from what others have said here, you could probably take and pass the CLEP with minimal effort.

VEE–Economics
Typically, the VEE requirement for economics will be met if a candidate has completed two economics courses, one course covering microeconomics and the other covering macroeconomics. Most of the topics listed below should be covered:

Microeconomics
• Interaction between supply and demand in the provision of a product and the way in which equilibrium market prices are determined
• Elasticity of demand and supply and the effects on a market of different levels of elasticity
• How rational utility maximizing agents make consumption choices
• How profit-maximizing firms make short run and long run production choices
• Different types of competition, or lack of it, and the practical effect on supply and demand
