4.5 Years, 6 CAS Exams up from 4 last year.
Large P&C Insurance Company

$62.7K, imagine raise will be 4% effective in March, that would put me at $65.2K

Not so much bonus year thanks to 9/11. Anyone else in the same boat?
Probably will only be 2% although in a better year all the goodies could total 10%.

Medium COL

Don't mean to be rude, but why do the figures look a bit low? I was under the impression that P/C's salary is very high? Had it been a very bad year?

There are several reasons why any salary might not be representative of the average:

My exam raises aren't $5,000 apiece so I don't see myself keeping up with the salary survey.

People changing jobs will probably make more. Plus, a lot of the range probably amounts to a higher cost of living; I belong on the lower end.

There might not be a lot of opportunity in a geographical area. Someone might stay in an area because they like it and accept less-than-competetive pay as a trade-off.

Personally, I'll make ACAS with one more exam. At that time I think it will be worth my while to see where the company puts my salary.

Anonymous above: How in the world did you get your ASA with 1.5 years of work experience?? More importantly who in their right mind would pay someone $70,000 with 1.5 years of work experience?

Anyway here are my numbers:
Salary: $105,000
Exams: 1 - 4, 6 & 7
Industry: Health
COL: High
Experience: 7 years

(Not the Anonymous that posted the $70K salary)

I don't see anything about that post screaming outlier. A determined college student in an actuarial program could conceivably pass 4+ exams before graduating.

Also, it's a High COL. Maybe it only equates to 60K in a Medium COL - I wouldn't expect that to be high for any ASA, which must be worth something.

For 1.5 years, I wouldn't complain. You aren't going to make much more without experience, I'd think. Nice work on the quick ASA. I take it you were getting it out of the way in school (grad school?).
