A few days ago, the SOA posted the new FSA module requirements:
http://www.soa.org/files/pdf/edu-elearning-mod-req.pdf

I was wondering whether completion of the ''Advanced FE Module'' would give credit for the ILA/Ret/G&H Financial Economics Modules.

Thanks!

Why would it? There will no doubt be many topics in the ILA/Retirement/G&H FE modules that aren't covered in the "Advanced FE Module", and vice versa -- if there weren't there would be no point in making different Financial Economics modules.

"Beginning July 1, 2010, all candidates pursuing Fellowship with the Society of Actuaries (SOA) will be required to complete one additional e–Learning module–i.e., a total of three modules plus the Decision Making and Communication (DMAC) module in addition to all other requirements including the two track–specific examinations and the Fellowship Admissions Course (FAC). The SOA made it clear that the requirements now include 3 modules. My question was whether the Advanced FE module encompassed the learning objectives of the track-specific modules.

Why would it? There will no doubt be many topics in the ILA/Retirement/G&H FE modules that aren't covered in the "Advanced FE Module", and vice versa -- if there weren't there would be no point in making different Financial Economics modules.

I guess that makes sense. Thanks Jraven

So this will be effective July 1, 2010. When will these new modules be released? I was planning on taking the 2 Retirement modules this fall. Will I be able to register for the new modules, or do I have to wait until next year?

From what I understand, the social insurance module will be the same. As for the FE module, you'll be exempted from the new FE module if you completed the current one before July 1, 2010. You'll still need to do a 3rd one, but it shouldn't keep you from advancing through the current modules.

I'm wondering if it might be better to wait for the new modules. Will it make studying for the fellowship exams easier by waiting until July?

I should finish FAP modules around the new year so I'm wondering if I should wait until July to start fellowship modules or just to get right to it.

Unless you want to write an exam in May, I would say get a few modules out of the way.

Part of me wishes you would have said yes wait. 6 months off sounds nice.

Think about it this way:
Lets say you take a break and wait until the new modules are released. July comes and you sorta feel bad about not doing anything for 6 months so you pressure yourself in starting a module - during summer -

Option B: You get one or two out of the way. 2 modules in 6 months is very doable and relaxed + you get to take summer off

Now, what sounds better? I guess it depends on what you have planned next year :toast:

If I happen to finish 5 preliminaries, 2 FSA exams, 2 FSA modules before July 1, 2010, (I will not have finished FAP, VEE, APC, DMAC, and FAC), am I obligated to take the "3rd" module?

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure you will have to, since you will be missing the FAP, a VEE and the APC. See quote below from the SOA:

Conversion Rules

A candidate who has completed all fellowship requirements prior to July 1, 2010 (with the exception of DMAC and FAC) will be held to the current two–module plus DMAC requirement. Exams passed prior to July 1, 2010 but with results released on or after July 1, 2010 will meet the conditions for a two–module requirement. The two modules must be completed (and have met minimum requirements) before July 1, 2010 and not be in progress at that time. All other FSA candidates must complete the new three–module plus DMAC requirement.
