Now this is funny! Guys what would you think if you saw this poor oppressed woman wearing a burquini?
The French are such a bunch of racists socialists that do not appreciate freedom of religion. No wonder they worship the ground that O'Bama walks on.

Move to political where I can angrily agree with you. In NAT, I'm laid back, and don't really care.

what i don't understand is the part that says everyone has to wear form fitting garments and that surf style shorts are not allowed. does this mean all the men have to wear speedos?

"These clothes are used in public, so they can contain molecules, viruses, et cetera, which will go in the water and could be transmitted to other bathers," Guillaume said in a telephone interview.
I've owned a hot tub before and there was a HUGE difference in the cleanliness/clarity of the water if someone went in with a t-shirt over their suit... even if the shirt had just been washed.

Every creepy dude wearing speedos => less people at the pool => less bacteria in the pool

key word is t-shirt. her suit is made from synthetic non-cotton material, that is closer to that of a bathing suit than a t-shirt. i would think if she did not wear the suit in public, just in the pool, then their argument would not be valid.

oh, that is really just speculation on my part, i don't really know.

Guillaume said France's public health standards require all pool-goers to don swimsuits for women and tight, swimming briefs for men — and caps to cover their hair. Bathers also must shower before entering the water.
it would appear so

but why tight? what if same material bathing suits, plus caps, plus showers? i don't understand how tight helps hygiene?
i guess she needs a tight burquini, since her main purpose was not showing skin, i think (i didn't read the whole thing).
i don't know, i don't really care, but i still wonder why tight helps?

if loose the water would be flowing on and around our "boys", which i guess they would like to avoid

maybe.
what does that have to do with hygiene?
And more importantly, why don't the French first address the lack of deodorant in their society?

Perhaps the wearing of a swim diaper would be a good compromise here.

would they allow her to wear a full wetsuit to the pool?

Probably something to do with....you know, what patience said, I guess. The tightness keeps the ass/pubes/etc away from the water.

tight keeps the hair under control. nobody wants to have to pick out pubes from their mouth while doing the butterfly stroke. many pools have such rules all over europe. tight boxer-style trunks are ok for men as well, though.

yes, but showing skin is not the only problem that muslim women face. they must also conceal their curves.

The burqini in the article's photo didn't blouse that much. It still showed a reasonable amount of curvage. The full wetsuit seems like a fair compromise.

Shouldn't they require everyone to wear full body suits then? What about chest or armpit hair. That seems to go unchecked (especially in France). I think they are using the cleanliness thing as an excuse to exclude "undesirables" from the pool.

well what if she wore a regular/tight bathing suit beneath the burquini, wouldn't that solve the problem?
i really think they are just using it as an excuse.

How does one prove that? Would they me willing to open the burqua enough to show. If that was allowed I would wear my speedo under my swimming trunks.
But I believe they want the swim suit to be the undergarment, with the top garment that is exposed to the enviroment removed

it's probable that it's just an excuse. but wearing a bathing suit under the burkini still doesn't change the fact that the burkini itself would be considered as normal clothing and, hence, inadmissible into the pool

but it's not necessarily normal clothing.
the french are a strange bunch...
i really think they are just using it as an excuse.
I think they've had the rules in place for a long time and don't see a reason to change them or to accommodate muslim women, probably fueled in part by their subborness and in part by their dislike for Muslims.

meh, they just care about pool hygiene more. the point is that it could be used as normal clothing whereas a bikini or speedo would not.

bubbles are OK, just as long as nothing brown comes out

:iatp: Is there a huge population of Muslim women in this pool? Is the one person wearing a burquini really going to cause everyone to get sick?

if there were a huge population, maybe they would change the rules. But if the rules exist, it isn't about whether this one person will cause illness it is about whether you change to rules for this one individual or not. and most likely the individuals working at the pool aren't going to make an executive decision to change the rules for this person

yeah, that's true. it could be as simple as that.
