Today is my birthday. Since I am evidently too old for ice cream cakes, musical chairs and pinatas, I am working for a few hours then hitting the beach. Then dinner with some friends this evening.

I find myself wondering how lucky I am to be here, alive, healthy, loved and cared about by a few people on this planet right now. What else do I really need? Nothing. Health, love, life, I have everything.

Happy birthday to me.

One of these days, you will be in a convenience store when a black man tries to redeem a winning ticket. The Asian owners will refuse to cash the ticket and the black man will pull a gun. You'll step in and pay the man's ticket, since you don't want anyone to get hurt and you have the money. You'll then walk outside with him and let him know if he needs any help to just ask. He will look at you and tell you, "Matt, you think you have everything figured out, don't you?" He then tells you something about having a surprise for you and walks off. You'll then remember you never told him your name.

The next day you will wake up next to your wife, in a completely alternate universe. You have two children and work a crappy job, and at first you hate it. Over the next several months you come accustomed to your new lifestyle and embrace it. Then the black man will return and say it was just a glimpse.

The next day you will wake up in your real life. You'll be rich, powerful, and lonely. You'll drop everything to seek out a love, and end your life of solidarity.

Or something like that.

I think what redhead is trying to say is - the more time you spend getting BJs from tarts in the parking lot of cheesy clubs, the less time you're spending looking for a quality woman.

If BJs from tarts is what you're looking for, you're doing just fine.

Funny...

...we had some friends over yesterday and a lot of wine was consumed....I woke up at 4 AM mostly naked in bed with a condom wrapper in my hand. No recollection of how I got there. I looked over, saw my sleeping husband, and was incredibly thankful that I'm married and knew the guy I was waking up to.

I think this is as good as it gets for birthdays when you're over 21 or so. Work, home, maybe dinner & drinks. Maybe better for birthdays that end with a "0" (hopefully better, that is). And you can have ice cream cake again when you have kids to share it with. I :ht: Cold Stone cakes.

Only thing I need for hookups is confirmation she's 18. If I'm not sure I send her into the store to buy cigs. Just kidding. Or am I?

For dating, the (age/2) + 7 rule is a guideline, but I went out with a 24 year old a few times last month. She was too young. Some 24 year olds are more with it, but other than an athletic body, she didn't offer too much.

At my birthday dinner last night, the hostess learned I wasn't gay. That was nice; I've casually known her for a few years because she has worked at several restaurants I enjoy.

Apparently too many dinners with business partners at fancy restuarants had given her the wrong idea. So that was good.

So, in other words, she had nothing to offer? I mean, whats the big deal about her having an athletic body anyway? Did that make her better at sex? Is there any reason why a girl with a little pudge can’t be awesome at sex? Or, y’know, be able to have “something to offer.”

Yes. It often does, since for guys, much of sex is visual and an attractive body is often quite exciting.

As noted earlier, I have "encountered" lots of slightly overweight women. Their abilities vary wildly.

God, you’re sad, sad man.

Uncompromising is the term I prefer.

Just curious (and bored) - what else are you looking for?

Intelligence
Confidence and love of herself
Sense of adventure
Kindheartedness

Of these 4, kindheartedness is the most important. Integrity problems are showstoppers and professional accomplishment or aspiration is unimportant. Indeed, I often find office worker women unpleasant as they usually lack the middle 2.

you give it to her good?

No. We had a nice little chat and the door is open; time will tell. She is very attractive; her face is a 10 (one of my older married friends said she looks like his idea of an angel) and her body is around an 8. I am reluctant to get into bed with women who work where I eat, though.

Intelligence
Confidence and love of herself
Sense of adventure
KindheartednessYou need intelligence in a partner...you'll get bored quickly otherwise and the relationship will be unequal. You'll lose respect for her and she'll resent you and your attempts to manipulate her.

I know this from experience.

Regarding #2 - you're probably not going to find this in many 20-somethings. Maybe late 20s. Most women I know - myself included - did not truly love themselves until they were about 30. JMO, I guess.

All in all, I think that's a reasonable list of very valuable qualities. good luck!

Skinny - Up to 110
Hot - 110-140
Little Overweight - 140-160
Overweight - 160-190
Cow - 190+

Of course, these numbers really depend on the shape of the girl, too. If she's got a small frame she's going to look at lot bigger as a 5'6" 140lb than a girl with a large frame at 5'6" 140lb.

I have no idea what lesbians like. I know that the range of fat in here is wrong.

Ideal for a girl varies based on the girl. BMI charts are pretty accurate.

BMI Categories:

Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

For someone who is 5'6" that equates to:

Underweight = < 114.5
Normal = 114.5-154
Overweight = 155-185
Obese = over 185

I don’t bother trying to guess weight because a) it’s a good way to get into an argument with a woman that you can’t win and b) I don’t particularly care if a woman is skinny or chubby.

yeah, i'd think that most guys are the same way and therefore those who claim to know what women weigh are wrong. it's rude to start guessing a womans weight.

Alma
08-25-2009, 07:24 PM
b) is not applicable. if a guy thinks that a woman is hot, is her saying that she's 15 pounds more than his estimate going to change her into fat in his eyes?

Ideal for a girl varies based on the girl. BMI charts are pretty accurate.

BMI Categories:

Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

For someone who is 5'6" that equates to:

Underweight = < 114.5
Normal = 114.5-154
Overweight = 155-185
Obese = over 185

But that's the same for a 5'6'' man? Something is definitely wrong with BMI. I'd say the high end of normal is a bit too high for most women and the low end of normal is MUCH too low for men.

I personally have huge celebrations every year. It pry alsohelps one of my best friends is the day before mine. But we usually make a weekend of it with 20-25 people. Next year we are planning to go to Vegas for the party

I'd like to clarify this. I think anyone is capable of having celebrations like these. You just have to make sure it's planned in advance. And obviously make it something new/fresh/fun every year. I firmly believe that people of all ages would love to get away for a weekend (provided they can find a sitter if they have kids, etc). You just have to put in the work to make these happen. Or have a SO that will plan it for you :)

I recently watched a Penn & Teller's Bullshit! where they covered BMI.

Not one of their best episodes, but IIRC, BMI was invented basically off-the-cuff by a 17th century Belgian sociologist and hasn't been changed since.

After I read this, I went looking for the interesting parts. I assume they were deleted. Alma's persecution by trolls is not imagined, even if she is partly responsible (she is slender, afaik, so i doubt she has a persecution complex about fatness).
