This one is harder for me than for most people I think.
LTTP is a great game, but I'm a sucker for a platformer, and SMW is probably the best (or 2nd best) platformer of all time.

Early voting is leaning Mario! This would be quite the upset.

Gotta go with Zelda in this one. I actually liked LttP more than Ocarina.

This poll makes me want to get both of these for the VC and play them again. I went with SMW because even though as a whole it's not the best platformer ever, I happen to think that the adjective levels in the Star Road featured the best platform design I've ever played. They were brilliantly difficult and fun.

How is link not crushing mario? every mario since 3 has been a diappointment. especially the snes renditions.

As far as platformers go, SMW was outstanding. The final battle against Bowser was a disappointment, but that's been a feature of almost every Mario platformer. As far as balance goes, I don't think any platformer has ever done it better. A relative video game novice can beat the game easily enough with some persistence, but someone looking for a serious challenge can find it by looking for alternate exits, beating the game without using the switch blocks, and the hidden levels.

It sucks that these two meet here, because this is really the final, especially now since Secret of Mana and Super Mario Kart are out.

Yea, I thought SoM would go to the finals as well. I never got into Chrono Trigger as much as other people seem to have. I think I replayed Mario more, but Link was incredible. I had to go with Link. Story, gameplay, side quests, chickens. Loved it!

Come on, you know you aren't in a position to make that claim.
Personally, I would put CT and FFVI > SoM but it's not that much of a landslide victory. They were totally different styles and if you always had friends over or younger siblings also into video games, I can see why one would rate SoM higher. With 3 players, it was definitely more fun than CT and FFVI.

Had to go with SMW.
I'm having a LOT more problems with the levels on VC on the Wii than I recall having as a kid on the SNES (Special Star world, in particular).

The key is Blue Yoshi. Blue Yoshi makes the star worlds so much easier.

That's because you aren't supposed to be playing SNES games on a VC or Wii. Those things are crap.

That's different because Halo 3 is a completely separate genre. Assuming you're not a huge fan of FPS then it's very reasonable to make that statement.
However you've:
1. admitted you're a big fan of both turn based and action RPGs
2. admitted you loved Illuision of Gaia and Secret of Evermore (and SoM is far superior to both of these games FYI).
3. know that Square Soft made games of exceptional quality for the SNES.
4. admitted to never playing SoM
Given those 4 facts, I don't think you can confidently make the claim that FFVI & CT completely dominate SoM. I think if you had played SoM you'd see that CT, FFVI, and SoM are all almost too close to rank in order of quality. And while I do believe the first two are slightly better, you can make a reasonable case for any 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ordering of the games.

The controls were very balanced. SMW was great.
That being said, LoZLttP is hands down my favorite game of all time.

I've admitted I've enjoyed action RPGs, but I'm in no way as big a fan of that genre as I am turn-based RPGs. When the two turn-based RPGs we're talking about are #1 and #2, I'm very very confident that I would not enjoy any action RPG more than them.
I know I would vote LTTP over any square/enix 16-bit action RPG, but I'm pretty sure I'm not voting LTTP over either CT or FFVI.

Great matchup. Both games are steallar. But I have to go with Link. I've probably played through LttP about 10 times. Never gets old. Great dungeons, very tough. Graphics were great for the time, and still kinda are (cartoony and such). Introduced hookshot. Just overall a brilliant game.

These are two interesting match ups in the final four. The other one is a battle to decide which is the best in it's genre, RPG, and these two are totally different genres but are definitely the best in their genres. I'm very happy with this final four and will be happy with the finals too.

As of this post, 34 votes have been cast total in this semi-final, and only 23 in the other semi-final. I'm going to go out on a limp and assume that nearly everyone of those Link-Mario voters who didn't vote in the other semi-final are all going to vote Link.
It's going to be a huge blowout.
