Charlene
I’ve Never Been To Me
Ron Miller, Kenneth Hirsch
From the album I’ve Never Been To Me
#3, 1982

When originally released in 1977, this song charted at a phenomenal #97. Charlene had left the music industry and was working in a candy shop when a Tampa DJ started playing the song again, and it rose to #3. The song appeared in the movie Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Devo
Whip It
Mark Mothersbaugh, Gerald Casale
From the album Freedom of Choice
#14, 1980

This art-rock/new wave group, formed at Kent State University, will forever be remembered for its bizarre outfits and this song. Lead singer Mark Mothersbaugh continues to produce music for television, such as Nickelodeon’s Rugrats and has a regular segment on hit kid's show Yo Gabba Gabba.

I do like the Charlene song, but the Devo song is much better.

Sorry to break up the sweep, but had too many associations with the Charlene song (but I really didn't think I'd be going solo here... ).
