Just curious. Please say whether you have passed this milestone or not. The DW surveys seem to suggest this is not too uncommon. However, my contacts with actuaries indicate toherwise.

It took me 8 years to make it to $100K. Medium COL, insurance company, casualty side, FCAS.

How many years it took you to get your FCAS and who much of a raise that brought you?

took me about 7 years (not counting bonus) - however I only have six exams and have been in consulting the entire time (also medium cost of living)

after many years in companies, I topped 100k as a self-employed consultant. Then my main client dried up (budget cuts, no money for consultants). Still working back up to six figures -- should be next year.

Hey Take 2, why didn't you just stick with your employee instead of going solo? From the replies we see here, it seems that 8 is a magical number: 100k almost for certain.

Hour Glass Girl, nice question you raised, but:

What about exam level by then, isn't this at least a bivariate random thing? I would suggest amending the querry :

Please reply :
N: number of years to 100K salary
E: exam numbers by then if not yet a fellow
F: Nb of years after fellowship attained
y: years "acheived" 100K!
COL:
Track: Life, Pension, Casualty etc.

so : NEFYCOLTRACK

too much asking? am I spoiling your little game?

First Anon here....

Took me 5.5 years for FCAS. FCAS raise wasn't too great, maybe $10K. Then I changed jobs a year or two later and got a $20K raise for the change.

Got another $15K for changing jobs after another couple of years.

Took 8 years to make it to $100 K base. This involved leaving a traditional actuarial role. Took 6 more years to double that.

Was your actuarial credentials instrumental or very helpful in moving to notradi work?

Actually I wouldn't have been considered for the job if I wasn't a Fellow.
