I received my confirmation form on February 22. I think most people expecting to go to the June FAC are in the midst of completing their last FSA modules, so the registration form has not been sent out to them yet, since the SOA needs a few weeks to approve the modules. It should trickle in a lot more in April, early May.
the deadline for the june fac is mid-april, so it better not be early may!

So I'm a dunce and haven't been paying attention to silly things like registration deadlines. Anyone know if they'll let me register for the June FAC even though my DMAC report probably won't have been graded by April 16?
highly unlikely, but hope is everlasting, is it not?

I sent my registration app but haven't received any confirmation yet and did not make any payment. Does it take a while to receive confirmation- do u have to pay before the 16th?

I'm going. From Colorado.
I got my second email asking for payment the day after I sent in the first one. It is due on the 16th.

I would suspect that the registration deadline is the date on which the SOA receives your application, not the day your confirmation/payment is sent. So I wouldn't be worried about it if I were you, but you can send an email to the SOA just to make sure.

Thanks for the info.
Is anyone planning on golfing at the prestigious courses on the resort? I'm thinking of arranging my flights to golf Sunday or Thursday. I may even ditch some of the dinners and golf at night, depending on what time the sun sets.

Has anyone received the package it was mention with the registration?
Also, do you get a confirmation after you send your outline? (I have not got one yet by the way)

I received the information packet yesterday. As for the presentation outline, I sent it early this week but I haven't got any confirmation from the SOA.

I got some reading materials- is it the same as packet of information that was refered to in the confirmation letter.
Also, what should go into the 1 page outline and whom should it be addressed to? Do I have to write an executive summary addressed to my audience in the DMAC or should I just explain the topic and background. Thanks.

I plan to have a summary paragraph at the top (so it reads like an abstract) and then below that a traditional outline of my presentation (main points, bullet points, sub-bullet points).

My one page presentation outline was just bullet points. something like this
Introduction
Problem
Possible solutions
What to expect
Body
Expand on problem and why is a problem
Possible solutions
Solution 1 - Why works or not
Solution 2 - .......
..................
Conclusion
Solution implemented/ Recommendation
I believe the outline is just for the grader to follow your presentation. I do not believe it is to be grade on from what I have heard from people who attended the FAC recently.
I got the reading material as well.

I'm trying to do as little as humanly possible here. My favorite quote about the presentations "The passing requirements will be based on the appropriateness of the topic (it must be actuarial in nature ) and length."
Since we all passed DMAC, I think we can safely assume topics are appropriate. So I just need to blab for 8+ minutes, and then it's FSA baby

I dare someone to talk for 8 minutes, 30 seconds (a margin is acceptable, right?) and just stop mid-sentence and yell "yeah! baby!!" and sit down.

I clocked myself at 12:30 last night. I've already stripped out so much that everything is at a 10,000 foot view. I guess I'll continue to edit...
Most DMAC projects are full of fluff, right? Decsribing a decision making process, stakeholders, pros and cons of different approaches etc. Are people's presentations really going to be focusing on this type of info? Right now I have about 4:00 of intro/background, 5:00 minutes dedicated to disecting possible approaches and stakeholder viewpoints, and 3:30 of using all that to get to a conclusion/recommendation. Just curious on other people's approaches.

don't sweat it, it's about presentation skills, not content. have fun with it and keep us entertained. :)

I was told by a FAC instructor that 18 people have ever failed the FAC (in its current format) and they were all for the same reason... showing up more than 10 minutes late for a required session.
A number of people were forced to stay at different hotels because Lansdowne Resort filled up. One guy who failed got stuck in traffic in a cab between his hotel and the resort. Fail.

They read that at the start of the Dallas 2010 FAC, too. The SOA guy began by saying something like "I don't know how many of you are on the Actuarial Outpost, but I have a post from there I'd like to read by someone who goes by the name of ReddEye." Totally thought he was gonna say Redge.
