View Full Version : Varying pass marks

Since there are several versions of exam C offered each sitting and each one has varying difficulty, there are varying pass marks. The SOA says so when they release pass marks. Last time, for example, the average needed to pass was 58%, some were higher and some lower. Does anyone know how much the pass marks vary? Could there be some easy versions with a 70% pass mark? Or is the range more like 55-60%? Any information would be helpful.

They used to not release the pass mark. The released historic pass marks have been between 55%-63% though. Since the last sitting was the first CBT and the pass mark was 63%, I would assume that this sitting would be very similar since CBT pass marks are usually steady.

They attempt to make each test and each sitting the same pass mark. Obviously this is more difficult at the beginning, which is why they can't give prelim passes yet. But if you get test A this sitting, you can expect a similar pass mark to test B of last sitting. Variance will decrease as n goes to infinity ;-)

Are you sure it doesn't go to 1/Fisher Information? ;)

Way to assume that we are estimating two parameters here...
