I have been reading through the required reading for course 6 with the aid of the JAM 6 material. I was wondering how others are handling the creation of notes/outlines based on the reading. On the one hand, I have been preparing a detailed outline on my readings, but on the other hand the manual contains what turns out to be a very similar outline of the material.

So, the question is - how are others using the JAM material? Are you reproducing the outline in the guide yourself, adding to the outline already written, or simply relying on the manual as written?

I know I personally will learn more by taking my own notes, but I am questioning myself what good the JAM manual (at least the detailed outline portion) will be to me if I proceed in that manner.

Others opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I am reading the text and adding whatever notes i think are important to the JAM outline and JAM cards.

I found that the notes in JAM are enough. If you estimate how much time you spend writing, you would be better off (I think)reading the JAM outline after reading the chapter.

One chapter at a time I first skim JAM chapter looking for bold and reading summaries. I then skim chapter of text. Then within each section/sub-section I read the JAM section/sub-section, and depending on how well I know the material at that point I read or skim the text. It is at this point that I evaluate the quality of the JAM detail outline and possibly add notes. Somewhere in the process I also take a look at the JAM cards and do one or two practice memorization trials for more difficult lists. I do not take my own detail notes because I find it takes me too long. It seems like my time is better spent working problems, memorizing, and moving on.
