My vote is for Miller and Steinbrenner. You could make arguments for Gillick and Martin, but there are several who are close to Martin who aren't in the Hall.

My vote is for getting rid of the Veterans Committee b/c they suck at picking Hall of Famers.

I have no idea what makes an owner a HOFer. But I think Garvey might get in.

I agree - and Martin is interesting.

Every eligible manager with a higher number of wins over losses is in except Davey Johnson. Who has 20 more wins over .500, a higher winning %, better average rank, same number of play-off appearances and WS in two fewer seasons.

But he does compare favorably to Lasorda and Herzog

so probably yes to Martin, but in all honesty Johnson has had a slightly better career

Garvey was a very well known player, but his stats fall below what most think

116 OPS+, 272 HR,

for comparison Keith Hernandez has a OPS+ of 128 and was the best fielder I ever saw
Olerud has a OPS+ of 128 and 255 HR
Mark Grace had an OPS+ of 119
Tony Perez is considered one of the weakest HOFers, was an RBI machine and had an OPS+ of 122

Garvey falls short in my opinion

Garvey can buy a ticket if he wants to get into cooperstown. He has no business being enshrined.

Ted Simmons has a much better case for induction and I think he probably comes up short. Though except for the HRs he compares very favorably to Gary Carter so maybe he should get in, though IIRC Carter was a much better defensive catcher.

I think Tommy John should be in just b/c of the surgery named for him. Or at least Tommy John's UCL should be in the HoF.

I also think that The Boss should have to wait a few years just for the fact that he was suspended twice by the commisioner for 2 years each.

But if The Boss does go in, I think that it would be fitting for Martin to go in the same class.

Definetely did some infamous things as owner but you can't deny his impact on the game. Doesn't matter when he gets in the hall but as owners go he was pretty iconic. But love him or hate him, can't see a good argument for keeping him out.

I would lean towards Oliver or Staub over Simmons - though I think all are just short

Staub's numbers just don't really stack up great against other HOF OFers and IIRC he was kind of stone glove in the feild. No?

Oliver seems like he's a great candidate for the Hall of very good.

Again I think just because of the games caught and the offensive production from the Catcher position Simmons deserves a look, but he's probably on the wrong side of the line.

Davey Johnson was who I was thinking, and even as a Met fan, I perceive him as someone whose managing career wasn't long enough. But if Martin gets in, Davey should.

None of the players have the "I can't believe he is not in" factor.

Seriously, what did he do that warrants this? He was a great owner for his fans and spent hundreds of millions of dollars, but other than make baseball very one sided to the Yankees (again kudos to him for that) what innovation did he bring to the game? If I'm a fan of the other teams, what did he do to benefit my enjoyment of the game? He did bring higher ticket prices to everyone by raising salary levels.

Does he get in because he was willing to have a $200 million payroll and nobody else did (even if they could afford it)? He was suspended twice.

He is likely the most recognizable owner in sports history but not sure if it was for the beneift of the game. It did benefit his pockets and the pockets of many players by raising the salary levels. Again not sure if this is HoF worthy.

Al Oliver, Rusty Staub and Ted Simmons were really good players who shouldn't be in the HoF.

He hung on a long time, with a lot of PH. In his prime I would say glove average, speed well below average, arm well above average

I'd turn in a blank ballot.

Will Blyleven get voted in by writers this year, finally?
