Great Western Insurance Company has an exciting employment opportunity at its national headquarters in Ogden, Utah for an Actuary. The job description, compensation information, and application procedures are below.
Essential Functions
• Create, modify and prepare various actuarial and financial reports and statements
• Sign required state insurance department filings
• Complete annual cash flow testing and asset adequacy analysis
• Prepare and maintain monthly valuation reports
• Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual actuarial reports
• Prepare pricing and other analysis of business
• Provides programming and system support as needed
• Support other departments to verify accuracy of data calculations
The qualified candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Proficiency in Excel, experience in Access and/or SQL including ability to develop complicated spreadsheets independently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to express complex mathematical and actuarial concepts to non-actuarial audiences
• Ability to effectively manage time in order to meet challenging deadlines
• Creative problem solving skills
• Personnel Management skills
Credentials and Experience
• ASA or FSA from SoA and MAAA from American Academy of Actuaries
• BA/BS in the area of Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance or related field
• Experience with actuarial modeling software, AXIS preferred
• Experience with VBA preferred
• Understanding of Reinsurance and Captive Insurance
Physical and Environmental Factors
The Actuary’s responsibilities will be carried out in an office environment. Most of the day is spent sitting at a desk, working on a computer. There is little physical activity limited to walking around the office and up/down stairs.
Position is full-time, FLSA Exempt
Pay commensurate with education and experience
