View Full Version : Seriously, How Much Study Time is Needed for Course 2?

I passed old Exam 5 last year. But I failed old Exam 6 so I'm taking 5B in May. Once 5B is over I'll start studying for C2. I already registered for C2 (April-June test window). I'm thinking of taking the C2 exam around June 8. That gives me about 5 weeks of study time. I can probably put in somehwere between 100-120 hours for this. For those of you working on it already... does 100-120 hrs seem sufficient?

100-120 hours will likely be overkilling it, in my opinion. I already passed 5 and 6 and I'm registered for the exam on April 18. I've put in about 30 hours so far, with a goal to get to 60-70. I hope that's enough because I've got exam 4 in June, and I don't want to study for Course 2 and not get my hours in for 4. . . there is a ton of memorization stuff at the end for insurance law/regulation that I'll probably have to focus my time on!

Given that a bunch of the material you know already from 5, doesn't 100 seem like much? Its good to aim high.

You will kill the thing with over 100 hours. Kill it.

OK, good to know that 100 hrs should be plenty o' time. Maybe I will even schedule the C2 exam a little earlier (like, June 1) so I can get started on studying for Exam 6 a bit earlier.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through with my study plan and expect to put in around 100 hours total, and it definitely seems like huge overkill. But, I have a ton of trips I'm going on April-June, and I really just wanted to overstudy for it so I can enjoy my spring before I have to start on 6.

I am taking the exam 4/19, then afterwards I can let you know if 100 hours was extremely excessive, or just barely excessive.

I think the results for this test window don't come out until August, regardless of your actual exam date, so it's going to hard to say whether we were adequately prepared. Do we even know what the pass mark might be?

believe they are targeting like 70%, as they do on other IIA exams.

I think this has to be the case, since you don't get "full credit" for passing a quiz unless you get over 70%.

I like asking you all better....How many hours does AICPCU say it takes to just view all the modules and take all the quizzes? I'm curious as to what you all think the appropriate amount of cram time after that is.

I think they recommend 4 hours per lesson. Not sure what your second sentence means, but since it doesn't seem like you've seen this before I would think that is about how long it will take. That gets you 64 hours, then I'd probably think 2-3 hours for each set of "review notes", although those are optional IMO. 60-80 hours should do the trick, give or take 10ish.

Well, I'm hoping it'll be pretty obvious after I take the exam if I will have to worry about it over the next 16 weeks (ie not adequately prepared) or if it was a slam dunk.

Just took the practice exam, after 85 hours of study time. I got 68/75 and finished in an hour and fifteen minutes (after looking over it three times...).

The ones I missed were the vague type of questions, or the ones where more than one answer seems right, so I'm planning on missing a few of those on the actual exam anyway.

100 hours is plenty if you've seen the material before.

Just took the practice exam after about 45 study hours, and got 58/75 = 77%. I took old 5 and 6 three times each so I've obviously had some practice already on a lot of this material. Some of the questions were identical to the quiz questions which is kinda lame (unless the actual exam does the same thing, which would be awesome). I consider myself borderline right now. One weekend of cramming, and I'm good to go I think. Exam date is next Monday.

I just need the absense of bad luck.

Well, 5B is now over.

Will start studying for Course 2 tomorrow. I have scheduled the exam for 4 weeks from today.

Thanks. I 'think' 5B went OK. I felt very good going into it. The exam wasn't overly hard, just long. 39 points total. I didn't finish, I left 3.75 points unanswered and rushed on another 2 point question just to get something down. I felt confident about the other 33.25 points I answered though. If I failed (which would suck more than I can imagine) then it will only be because of the time. I knew how to do everything, but could only write so fast.

I just took the exam on Tuesday, and I'm pretty sure I passed. There were 40 that I know I got right and another 20 that I felt very confident about. I studied about 25-30 hours for this exam, basically most of the day Saturday, Sunday, and Monday leading into the exam Tuesday morning.

That being said I did pass Old 5 and 6 last year. In addition I completed my CPCU in September so a lot of the material was still somewhat fresh in my mind.
