My son is starting fall, 2012 and majoring in Acturial Science at FSU. How do you like the program? Are you happy with the major or if you had to do it over would you major in Statistics and minor in AS. Uf has the option, and he had also considered their program. How is the recruitment at FSU for AS majors?

I am a recent graduate and I have to say the program is in fine shape and is the only real option in the state to get the degree in Actuarial Science. Professor Paris is really one of the best and I expect the program will only continue to get better. He is a really great person and is willing to help you as much as possible. A very clear instructor that is also fun to be around. The program definitely prepares you to pass exams for certain and if you attend the seminars, they are tremendously helpful for passing exams. The biggest thing is the amount of recruitment done at FSU, many big companies will come to present for our very active actuarial club. In the fall and spring, about a dozen or so companies came to our program looking for students for internships and full time jobs, some of which were exclusively recruiting students from FSU. The companies I have interviewed with gave favorable responses about the students they hired from Florida State. There is a solid network of actuaries, in the southeast especially, from Florida State.
