They develop functional power, and that could mean simply strengthening those fast twitch fibers that would allow you to achieve the quick bursts you need for your sport. Endurance can be achieved by combining this sort of training with traditional cardio vascular exercises (running).

So now I need to assemble data and crank out some narrative around it to tell these morons that I made the decision the same way they would have (even though I didn't). This is why consulting is idiotic; in order to get paid for brainpower, you have to summarize your findings in a way that the client can understand. Sheba is right, squats aren't a leg exercise. You won't go "out of balance" by squatting. And even IF that were your honest concern (nevermind its illegitimacy) you could compensate by doing another hip exercise like deadlifts which work the legs even less. Or even a full-body explosive exercise like clean and jerk.
