Voterette has a play money account at partypoker, and received an offer to match her first deposit. The requirements had something to do with playing a certain number of raked hands by a certain date. IIRC expunge or someone got a similar deal there for a referral. My question: how does this work? I don't want her to lose her deposit, thinking that she's only playing on the bonus.

im guessing the new play is getting a $25 bonus on a deposit of $50 after they play 125 raked hands. while accumulating the raked hands the money in play is infact the deposited money, if you lose all of that money and only rake 124 hands you have $0. (now you could deposit more and play 1 more raked hand and then get your $25, but your original $50 is lost), There isn't a safe way to guarantee you're playing on the bonus money. closest to it would be join a nl table and check fold every hand. (if there are 10 players at the table this will cost you $0.75 to play 10 hands, prolly 8 of them reach the raked status, so about 16 rounds will cost you $12 in a near risk free scenario.
There is no way to just play on the bonus, your deposit is at risk.

OK, I deposited $50 at party last night, needed 125 raked hands to earn the $25 bonus. Got on a .50/1 limit holdem table. Most of the hands were raked.
Started off very poorly. Top two pair beaten by a low set. A-high straight lost to a full house.
Then, I was dealt 55.
Flop came 553. WOOHOO!
Turn: 8. I bet, the one guy left raises me! I figure he has pocket 8's or 3's. Cap the betting.
River: 8. D'oh! Had $1.75 left on the table, put it all in.
He called, showed the 8888. :swear:
So now I've lost about $33 of my $50, and I'm not even halfway to the bonus.
Took a break for 10 minutes. I had also been playing a nickel-dime Omaha8 at Stars and was doing well. Looking back, there was one raise I would have taken back on the straight loss. Other than that, I concluded I was playing well, just getting bad breaks. So I went back, to the amazement of the table.
Cards picked up - particularly an A-high flush with a lot of action. Made it as high as $9 ahead, ended up the night $1.50 ahead on my play, plus made the $25 bonus.

that's where you need a bad beat jackpot

What's that? A bonus for losing on quads or s-f?
Can anyone here personally top this beat story?
Technically it wasn't really a bad beat. He only called my bet on the flop, and on the turn he had every reason to believe he had the high hand.

prolly not, that is as bad as they come post flop... He needed one of two cards on the turn followed by the other on the river.
Hey atleast you got a pocket pair
I've decided that until i hit a certain point of studying i am not playing. trying not to fall behind.

I have seen (not personally involved in the hand), a Flop of
Qd Jd Td, blank on the turn, then 9d on the river, and see two guys go all in, one holding the Kd Kc, and the other holding Ad 8d.
How mad would you be holding Ad 8d!!!!

Not as mad as voters beat above.

Probably true, but still, how many times are you going to see a straight flush beat in a holdem game?

Castle, you just EXACTLY described a beat I got a few weeks ago playing fake money table at poker stars. You either saw me or that was a freaky coincidence. (I *think* the suits even match)
I agree that is not as bad of a beat (by a long shot).
The hand described above with the 88's is the worst beat I've ever seen, pre or post flop.

I guess it is more common than I thought! I saw it at a live game in a casino, playing 4-8 HoldEm
